2009 Mazda CX9 GT w/ Nav
Hello Everyone,

I just joined this forum and wanted to say hello to everyone!

Does anyone have any information on replacing my 2009 Mazda CX9 GT Rear Camera? Someone tried to pry off my rear camera and completely broke it off...of course damaging while doing so. I've searched online for any parts related to it and nothing. Any suggestions/recommendations would be very helpful. I would hate to head over to the dealers or repair - $$$

Thanks in advance everyone!
Peter

Nuzy, my deductible is $500. I believe the camera should be less no?

I'll need to find out how much would it be for my dealership to repair. Probaby would cost me a arm and a leg for such an small item.

I went to the Mazda dealer and they Quoted me $873.00 for the camera!! I can't believe they would charge so much for such an small item. Had no idea it would set me back so much. Now i sort of know why someone would have tried to steal it.

Does anyone have any instructions as to the removal of the camera?

Thanks in advance.

You could buy the mirror backup set and get the camera from there, howver that'll set you back 600+ so filing a deductable would be cheaper.

What actually broke? Is the camera missing and just wires are left?

You could try buying a backup camera kit from ebay and just using the camera and wire it urself?

Xarthan,

I still have the camera. The thief must of tried to steal it by prying it off with a screwdriver. Basically, the camera looks like it was just ripped right off including damaging the wires. The camera was just laying on the ground. I suppose this can be repaired but I don't know anyone who's that handy with eletronics.

Thanks for your reply by the way.

Well it could be time for you to become handy with electronics! If the damage was just a few wires getting ripped off of the camera you could try soldering them back on. It's worth a little bit of time and effort to try, even if it doesn't work because you'd have to replace the camera anyway.

Do you have pictures of the damage?

I've attached two pictures. It's a little blurry taken from my camera phone.

i'm not sure if i can repair these super small wires. maybe it can be replaced somehow.

$873 could be the price for parts and labor of new installation.
There usually are two parts involved. A camera (shown) and a kit. The camera, IMO, is gone (ripped circuit strip). If I were you, I would ask for (or find) the part number of the camera, and buy it at lowest price on the web. Then, install it myself.
I did it for a Toyota before. It was not difficult at all.
- remove the inside panel of the hatch. You will see the attachment and wiring for the camera.
- replace the borken part
- attach the panel back
The camera usually is not cheap as OE. Unfortunately, the aftermarket ones do not work since most of them have composite output. OE ones always have some special wiring (so that you HAVE TO buy from them!!!).

Anyway, that is what I can offer now. Sorry for you lost.
I would ask multiple dealers for a price quote.
Start with
- waynemazda.com
- mazdaparts.com
Two Mazda online dealers I know that offer good prices.

Can anyone confirmed that the backup camera mirror kit comes with the same camera as the navi? maybe, i can just use the camera part because it's less expensive as a kit.

Thanks all for your help.

That's just plain proof that some people deserve to be taken out during the commission of their crimes. No police, no judge, no jury, just the cost of ammunition.

Sorry for your troubles. If the camera body can be purchased separately, your damage should be a lot less than the quoted price.

The problem with getting just the camera is that it looks like the circuit strip would have to be replaced too because it's cut off, as opposed to just disconnecting the camera and reconnecting a new one. Maybe there is an intermediate connection, but if not and it's one long strip all the way to the nav source, the whole thing will need to be replaced anyway.

Sorry to hear about this. I carry 0 deduct on my comprehensive just because of things like this (plus windshields). I'm not sure how much the kit costs, but it could end up being cheaper to just file the claim and have the dealer install the new camera and circuit strip. Either way, I hope you manage to find a reasonable solution.

Camera part number

I believe the camera part number is 0000-8F-N07. That is what is listed on the instructions for the Mirror+Camera installation instructions. I'm guessing the camera would be the same part as the one used for the Nav system. The wire harness kit is 0000-8F-N06, and the camera + harness is 0000-8F-N04.

okay....i've called several Mazda dealers and they could not confirm that the Backup camera mirror kit is compatible with the navi version. The OEM part # TD1467RC0A goes for $611.18 at www.palisadesvolvomazdafactoryparts.com and they seemed to be the cheapest. Also found that this price is for part only and does not include installation. Talking about super expensive.
However, I've found a installation kit-rear camera(mirrored version) for $252 also at the above website (00008FN04A). But, of course, they could not confirm that the camera works with navi. I cound purchase and return it only if it's never installed....

This is pretty fustrating...I guess there's no escaping the high cost.

I am not sure the camera would be the same for backup mirror with display vs. NAVI with backup view either. Usually, the output format could be different. A lot of aftermarket systerm (i.e. the backup view mirror - from Gentex) uses composite cable. A lot of OE systems use proprietary cable/formats (probably still RGB wrapped in different cables/printed circuit strip). Don't assume they are the same unless you could return it if not.

Check the eBay for a couple of weeks. Some guy has been selling parts from a salvage CX9 for a while (as his way of making a living).
He may have a backup camera from it.

Part# MSRP OurPrice
0000-8F-N01 $315.00 $247.28
0000-8F-N04 $360.00 $282.60 <----
----------------------------------------------
I don't think you need both. I my guessing (please ask them) that N04 is what you need.

However, this is price of the camera of the backview mirror display. We don't know if the cameras are the same YET.

How many wires are coming out of the camera? The mirror+camera kit uses 4 wires: green (+6V camera power), white (camera ground), red (NTSC video +), black (NTSC video -). So if your wiring matches that, it is the same camera and part 0000-8F-N07 would be the replacement. Also, that means it's composite video, so you can possibly replace it with a different video camera with composite output. There are some nice (seemingly) CCD cameras on ebay anywhere between $60-$160.

Captainbingo,
There's 6 wires and it's using ribbon cables...not composite. I suppose there is a difference between the cameras then. Not good for my sake.

Those flex ribbon cables are hard to fix. Without taking mine apart, my guess is that the ribbon cable is no longer than about 6 inches and mates to some type of sending unit in the hatch. The sending unit in the hatch amplifies and sends the signal via a shielded cable to the Navi system. Unfortunately, you cannot just buy the flex cable. As someone else recommended, search Ebay or a junkyard for the entire camera but even if you find one for say $200.00, you still run the risk that the item does not work.

In the end, that is why we have insurance and although your deductible may be high, the time spent and the grief/frustration you go through may just be worth it.

My $.02 worth.
