Mazda CX-3?

Had not seen this. Doesn't seem likely for US market in near future.

I did see the Buick Encore at autoshow in November, it's not that small.

I didn't figure we'd end up with it in the US either. Although maybe if the Encore does well then they will. But we are getting a bit overrun with tiny cars and tiny crossovers so I'm not sure if there is enough market for them to keep them afloat. Especially when you can get a Mazda3 skyactive and get better mpg than most of the tiny cars.

11" shorter than CX-5. That's why it looks so ill-proportioned. Even though I own one, IMO the CX-5 is borderline ill-proportioned. Contemporary CUV styling, such as the CX-5 utilizes, works best with a vehicle of a certain length. Shorten 'em up and they begin to look "humpy" fast, especially when they're jacked up as high as this one.

Yes, even at 11" shorter it's not that small compared to the CX-3 thing which will be even shorter. Encore is frumpy/humpy, not my taste.

Although CX-5 is classified as compact SUV, it's really very close in size to the original mid-sized premium SUV/crossover, the trend-setting/benchmark Lexus RX300 (less than a 1" difference in length).

btw: AWD Encore is rated (city/highway mpg) 23/30 w/1.4 turbo, versus the CX-5 AWD rating of 25/31

it is funny how cars have gotten so big that what was once mid-sized is now small.

I was wondering if it was just the pictures of the Encore that made it look all wrong proportionally.

this is really hard to read

Encore looks that way in person, stumpy, IMHO.

I get the feeling that a CX3 would cannibalize sales from the regular Mazda3, so doubtful it will be introduced in the US lineup.

The sketch is interesting. I don't hate the design, but I'm not buying another small car again unless its a secondary fun car (and if that's the case it will be a BRZ)

US needs $6.00/gallon gas price to create substantial demand for a crossover/SUV of this size. Stay tuned...

The author does not know what he is talking about because he states that the CX5 is based off the Mazda 3, which it is not. Also just like the Mazda 2 can't beat the Mazda 3 mileage I doubt there will be any real mileage benefit to a smaller SUV based off the 2.

Likely as not, the NEW 3 platform will be derived from the CX-5, since so much development was put into it and size is more or less the same.
