Mazda 6i hatchback (auto)?

Looking at cars locally on craigslist. I know this is a Mazda forum, however I have a serious question. For around $5,000 I can get an Auto- 6i Hatchback. Which is a better car? (As in better handling, acceleration, etc). I do not plan on hitting the racetracks, however I do want to do things to the car. Should I get the 2004 Lancer Ralliart sedan (manual), or the 2005 6i?
