I am fighting with someone about how the Mazda 3 is better than the Cobalt what should I say? Help. I have showed him this forum and my site now what should I tell him.

I haven't looked at the cobalts much, so can't really comment. Here's a discussion on another forum that admittedly I didn't read, but maybe there's something useful for you there.

There is nothing better about the Cobalts. Period. American cars are s***, that is why GM lost $10 billion dollars last year. Even the Ford Fusion is based off of Japanese (Mazda 6) design, architecture, technologies.

If you're talking about the Cobalt SS they're pretty quick...just a bit slower than the SRT-4. In terms of fit and finish, the Mazda 3 is the better of the two with higher quality materials both inside and out. Cobalt does not have a desirable suspension setup because of its torsion bar in the back while the mazda has a multilink setup. If you're talking about the 'regular' cobalt there's no comparison; the mazda is light years ahead of it. However, in straight line performance the cobalt SS is the quicker of the two. The MS3 will blow the SS away when it gets to the states this year.

So, true.

And so sad. What is going to happen if the deal between Nissan and GM goes through? I just still cant imagine...Nissan owning 20% of GM! I guess only the strong survive.

Nissan would be shooting themselves in the foot going with GM. American cars are s*** period. Even the bult in USA Mazda 6's are sub-par in quality/ fit and finish.

I totally agree, Mikey. I would like to see Mazda buy back the Ford ownership, as the Tribute is also sub-par, particularly the transmission in addition to the fit and finish you mentioned. I've owned 11 Mazda's since 1984, and tho I've not owned a Mazda6, the Tribute I just traded on my 06 Mazda3 was so far below the others in quality it was unbelievable. IMHO Ford is giving Mazda a bad reputation. Perhaps if the CX-7 takes off, they will discontinue the Tribute.

I don't think so. Even though GM is hurting they are still the largest manufacturer in the world. They have a huge distribution network that could bring Nissan up to where they would like to be. Not only that but Nissan is looking for a partner regardless of who it is. They just can't afford all the costs of the new "green technologies" . That is also why many other brands are forming alliances, business wise; globalization is great.

Why aregue, just go with him to go test drive both one day and let him make up his own mind.

It should be rather obvious
