Hi, great forum you have here. I recently got hold of a Mazda 2. Its actually my first time to own and drive a Mazda and it sure was a refreshing experience. Locally, we have only a 1.3L 16v hatch. Its the only hatchback variant that has a manual transmission so I just went ahead and bought it. At first my sponsor and friends were all, "dude, what the?!" or "why not a ..." Only because all my other cars are Lancers (Evo IV, Evo VII, 1.6 SOCH Turbo Mirage Coupe, and an 08 Lancer). But I thought to myself, time for a refreshing change so I got one to be a daily drive but then I got a copy of DSport, BAM! there was the Mazda 2.
First thing I noticed driving it from the dealer was that the gearbox, it was so crisp and accurate. I got it on a Friday and was prepping it already on the weekend to test it. I changed the stock suspension with Emotion Coilovers from my sponsor, K&N CAI, 16X7.5 rims with 205/45 Toyo Proxes for more grip.
My wife and I along with our shih tzu and terrier boarded the car, along with a back full of luggage for a 5 day stay on a beach resort. Amazingly we all fit inside and all the bags and luggage.
With a tank full of fuel, the car managed 348.9km with only 31.49 liters of fuel; not bad since keeping the powerband to about 4000-5000rpm. I love the accuracy of the gear changes, the handling and grip is like a dream. I love it.
Locally we have something similar to Redline Time Attack, its called Circuit Showdown. I'm planning to race this baby with the other FWD cars (lower bracket) along side the Evo IV I run on the series. Will be looking for inputs on the car from the Mazdas247 Community, thanks again and more power.
