Max boost in 1st and 2nd gear?

Why do you want full boost in 1st or 2nd...its all wheel spin... (huh)...its useless.

Even with traction control and corksport motor mount inserts I can spin well into third gear. I can't get traction if I punch it in second, all it does is blow tire smoke, screech, and try to throw me off the road. There is NO REASON to have full boost in 1 and 2. ZERO!

exactly. heck, I'm actually annoyed that I can't take second gear as hard as I want to. was running with a friend of mine in a mustang today and he poked back at me that while it was cool to hear me break loose at the top of second and even a bit in third, it didn't help my cause....beating him...but it was cool and I still pulled on his slushbox 'tang :)

what IS the max boost for first and second gears without using the mbc. as in, whats the max for each at stock setup???

I believe it is around 5-7 lbs. Not that I want to use max boost in 1st and
2nd. I want it available tho.
BTW...I'm not asking anyone else if they wanted it or if I needed it. Just wanted to know how to achieve it.
Thanks

I lose traction about 500-1000 rpms after I floor it, if not instantly, like the other night in the rain ;)

not sure....I usually squeeze the throttle vs flooring it. Heck with the TS and wheel hop due to the stock MM I am still running, I'm very hesitant on flooring it :o

From what I have heard even with boost controllers etc... you still wont be hitting quite as high boost levels as you will once you get into 3rd gear and so on. you might be able to get the boost fairly high in 1st and 2nd but then you gotta have stuff so you dont fuel/boost cut in the upper gears/rpm's later on. I'd love to have 16psi for 2nd gear just to roll into the boost slowly and throw people in the seat.

boost controller and map clamp / boost cut defender. beware the dangers off too much boost in any gear without tuning. mazda sets the factory boost where it is for a reason.

Ken, you're smart, let me ask you. I am not necessarily looking to turn up the boost but in certain high speed situations my boost is creeping past 18psi and I am getting cut. Only breathing mods are intake/dp/rp. The idea of a map clamp taking away the safety factor bothers me, but I think what I am getting from the boards is that if I dial in a boost setting (say 17.9psi) that it will not let me exceed that set psi. So at least in theory, I could use a boost controller to keep myself out of boost cut range without removing my overboost protection. If this makes sense fantastic... if I am talking out of my ass, let me know.

the MAP clamp does not limit the amount of boost the car makes. you can use the adjustable one we offer to tune exactly how much boost the car sees, rather than the BCD which is really just a bleeder valve that, as i recall, makes the car think its hitting 10psi and no more at all times. if you are hitting 18 psi, you could set the MAP clamp to the level of boost just shy of what would trigger the cut (15 psi) and still be relatively safe. any kind of boost controller cannot take you below what the car boosts naturally. so if you are boosting 18 you can't use a controller to go to 16 per se.

Gotcha, so since I am already experiencing boost cut, I need a map clamp PERIOD (unless I go with an adjustable unit). I can add the mbc for instance, if I feel like running 18psi at a later date. The more I read into this, the more I want to turn the boost up a little bit. I have heard it was the best power upgrade yet.... but no mods in that persons sig

I have heard max is 10 psi in first and second, then in 3rd on it lets it get up to 15.5 or whatever.

from what i understand lestat...you can turn the mbc down to 17.9 and not experience any cut. you will get cut if the ecu sees 18 psi for more than 2 seconds. if you spike higher, but settle at 17.6-17.9, you shouldn't need any kind of map clamp OR boost cut defender.
as ken says, the map clamp just fools the computer into seeing less boost. if the map clamp is set to see 15 psi for boost, you will never get boost cut, no matter what you turn your mbc to.
if you're like me, you turned the voltage up and down on the ******* abs sensor and blew your ******* gas pedal sensor...st00pid me should learn to read and hook up map clamps properly.
you my friend, are in good hands...

question to anyone that knows...if you eliminate the stock boost control system, couldn't you use the mbc to turn boost DOWN?
