This is my first standard car. I try to put it in first gear when i was in neutral while the car is still rolling very slow, but everytime i do it, i stall. Do i have to give a bit of gas? Or alot of gas? i need help asap
The Proteges have a very jumpy 1st and 2nd. I would say, until you get used to a manual tranny more stay out of putting into 1st while in motion.
If you're going around 8-10mph (second line on speedometer) or more just use 2nd for now. I try to stay away from going into 1st in motion because it's hard to rev match when going that slow and with such a stubborn 1st.
its stubborn because its a speed lockout, i think. i just press the clutch in and lightly press the shifter into first. the lockout will prevent from going in, but when the speed is right, it slides right in.
Yep, my first manual car is my P5 and I had some trouble with 1st. haha. But seriously, if you're moving even the slightest bit you could probably get it smoothly into 2nd, just get the revs up a bit before releasing the clutch. Forget 1st gear. Esp. in the snow, mud and gravel...
i just bought my car 2+ months ago and was learning for the first time how to drive a manual. basically what you wanna do is give it just enuf gas so your rpm range is like 1000-2000, then at the same time slowly bring the clutch back up. while doing this, just keep your heel on the floor and move your foot back while doing it so that you have more control with the clutch as you're engaging it slowly. let us know how it turns out.
