Were you doing bi-xenon? Unless you were doing bi-xenon, you don't actually need to do a battery wiring harness. The single beam HID kits are generally plug and play. I did mine without even disconnecting my battery.

not a 55W kit... the initial amp draw on that is going to be WAY higher than the factory wiring is made to handle.

And yes, it sounds like he fried the controller.
