MagnumP5's Post-Turbo Dyno!

Alright, I know you have all been waiting for this... I went to a dyno yesterday with the rest of the local college car club (CCVT). The shop is run by one of the alumni and was pretty far away but it was quite worth it as you can see. Anyhow, the best run was 188.76whp and 187.42wtq although the first run made over 190 wtq. The first two runs were done in 4th whereas the last was done in 3rd but it didn't make much of a difference. All mods are listed in the sig (minus the "Completed" mods of course) and I am really impressed. I went into yesterday thinking maybe 160-165whp but this surpassed anything I could have imagined. The boost level is sitting at 7-8psi with an occasional creep to 9psi.

The funny thing about the curves is you can still see the 2.0L's characteristic peak tq at 3500RPM and peak hp at 6000 ROM as well as Mazda's pig-rich A/F ratios. I do like the fact that the tq curve is relatively constant.

My next plans are to ditch the Magnaflow exhaust for a CS Power Series or something similar (waiting for a reply on some questions I've asked them) and to get a PG intake manifold. Maybe adj. cam gears and new cams? DSM AFC? Maybe one of Focus' new exhaust manifolds?

Oh yeah an Kansei, I wouldn't be suprised if you're nearl 195 or even 200 whp with the FSZE cam and the larger exhaust.

Alright, feel free to discuss... :)

very nice :)

edit: what engine management are you using? I don't remember. I know I run a lot richer than that on my MSP ecu (unflashed).. I hit 9.2ish when I hit full boost (shocked)

Hey mag,
did u have your clutch installed? or was it the stock...good Numbers by the way... i wanna do a before and after with mine...

No, I'm still running the stock clutch but I just ordered an Exedy Stage 1 and I'm looking to get a new flywheel. The clutch was able to hold up on the dyno but during hard runs on the street it can't hold.

Just saw the edit - I'm using the MSP ECU as well although I really don't know if it has been flashed or not so maybe that could be the difference? Aside from that possibility we have nearly the same setup minus a few small differences so I don't know what would cause you to run richer. Either way, I know my wideband lays flat at 10.0 aroun 4k RPM and stays there at full throttle.

congrats man, good numbers, i didn't even know you had put it in.
Thanks.

I just realized there is a "Dyno Sheets" subforum (ughdance) . Mods feel free to move it there if necessary...

Have you looked at some of the various MSP catbacks? I'm sure they can bolt up fairly easy. I know Rogue did it, I'm not sure how much fang-dangling it takes to make it work though.

Anyways, great numbers again. Do some more dynos there once you do more upgrades! (thumb)

I don't know about the MSP exhausts - I did think about it. I know they are longer in the rear but I don't know if you could just cut the pipe and reweld it because of the bend there. Do you know which exhaust Rogue went with? I really want to do 2.5" but not the j-pipe-back ones like Vibrant, GHL and Perrin. I think ApexiR1 or whatever has a MSP catback that is 2.5" so I'll have to check in with that. And yeah, I'll definitely put up more dyno's once I do some more stuff. The immediate next things are a new clutch and a lightened flywheel so I probably won't dyno after those but after exhaust and IM, definitely.

There should be a video of the dyno around somewhere although it's probably pretty boring. I'll see if I can find it anyway...

Vibrant 3" full exhaust. I have to ask him some questions about his install anyways, I'll ask him what is necessary to make it work.

The Thermal cat-back looks like a good option too. 2.5" piping and made for the P5. I'm in/going to be in the same boat as you, as I have the MAM mid-pipe and a Magnaflow catback. Soon I'll have the MSP turbo and Corksport pipes on there :D

Magnum, nice numbers!! I'll be dynoing my car in a couple weeks. I'm really looking forward to see how my red wagon is doing.

As far as exhaust, like khaosman said, i'm using the Vibrant. They took about about 5" from between the muffler and the bend on the axle-back portion. But on the RacingBeat/Mazdaspeed exaust, you remove the 5" between the tip and the muffler.

Do you get any odd hesitation in 3rd gear? I'm not sure if my ECU is a flashed one or not. Even with a bigger turbo, I still run super rich at WOT. My AEM A/F sensor is pinned at 10 when I get on it.

rofl I've been done for weeks. I finished on I think January 7th or 8th. It's been great so far :) except for that darn hesitation.

From what I can tell I don't have any hesitation in any of the gears. I also really don't know if my ECU was flashed or not. Then again I can't really push the car right now because my clutch starts to slip at about 1/2 throttle in 3rd and 4th. I looked at the Vibrant though - it would be good if I didn't already have a j-pipe and a midpipe. Does anyone know if the Corksport exhaust attached at all the same points? If it does I'll probably go with that and weld in a flexpipe and a O2 bung and just go catless until I have to go to inspection and then just put my MAM back on. Either that or I could just use the latter two pieces of it...

Edit: Oh yeah, after about 4k RPM my wideband is pegged at 10. You can even see it in the dyno pics (they also had a wideband)
