LSD Failure LIST

The diff can't be a solid piece by design. It has to have something inside like clutches or springs and cones in it. Doesn't sound like this guy knows what he's talkinmg about. From what I remember the newer diff just doesn't engage as hard so as to not put so much stress on itself.

The older ones used springs inside the diff the newer ones changed design and lost the springs. They do not engage as abruptly as the first ones.

Hey All, how many on this list changed their Motor Mounts to stiffer ones before their LSD crapped out? did the ones who changed to stiffer mounts before lsd broke last longer?? OR VICE VERSA? just doing my own little research, for the small amount of us who are dreading that day...

I guess I am lucky because I beat the hell out of mine at high boost and it lasted 104k miles exactly twice your mileage.
Yes, I wish Mazda would have ordered a recall because I feel every MSP diff will eventually go. It is almost a guarantee with they way the ring gear is pressed/riveted onto the diff.
Make sure to get the new one welded or you will just go through this all over again

What a POS LSD design. I'm ordering the welded OEM MSP LSD as soon as the shop tells me what I'm 99% sure of. Worst part is I wasn't even driving it when it happened. It was our live-in nanny who was driving it (the only time I've ever let her drive my car) because my wife and I were in my wife's car and she needed to go somewhere:

Haven't torn it apart, but from reading previous threads since I've owned the car, I figured it would happen sooner or later. Just like so many others, just pulling away from a stoplight normally, and BAM!! Couldn't get any power to the ground. No $$ for Quaife, gotta TRY and come up w/ a welded one. And just so I'm clear, it's just the "housing" that is welded so it doesn't affect the functionality of the LSD, correct?

Lsd Welded!

Hey guys, i just got my LSD welded last weekend, along with a new ACT clutch ,AWR front MM and redline tranny fluid (shockproof), and yooo...(boom06)
the ride is pulling like no other...im driving like i jus stole that s*** all the time, it feels great! if anyone hasnt gotten theirs welded yet, PM me, i know a great shop with a lot of MSP experience who does a great job...the shop owner took pics of the welded LSD on his camera phone, so i have to try and walk him through sending them to me...
