low idle

that i own is sick
i dont know what the deal is but sometimes when im driving or when im sitting at a red light my rpms go down tword 0 and i can hear the engine about to stall but then it kicks back up again, it started it pritty bad today so i thought i would see if any of you had an idea of what the deal is....all i have done is injen cai

Well, you can rule out the chances that it is you CAI. I don't have one and my car does this too. This was the first thing i took my car in for and they could not reproduce it...so they just flushed out my injectors and said if it happens again to just call them. It has happened again but I am too lazy to call. Oh well. I'm not sure what causes it but I just wanted you to know that its not the intake.

this also happened to me but on my miata...kinda weird. at first i thought that it was because i had low fuel (it went away for some reason after refilling) but later on it came back again then went away. there's nothing on my car.

the problem is that out car has an automatic idle control - that's why when it dips right down it all of a sudden comes back up again...that's it working. sometimes it take a little while for it to figure out how far to leave it's little thing open to allow enough air to come in. a reset of the ecu helps this. or you can disconnect the automatic idle control and adjust the idle on the throttle body to keep the engine revs about 600rpm, then reconnect the automatic idle control and if it ever stuffs up and closes right up, atleast your car wont drop below 600rpm because you have pre-set this.

q: is this automatic idle control also resposible for high idle startups? when its cold, it just doesnt seem that you want the car to idle up around 2500 until you get good oil temps up? so if that sytem is responsible for high idle starts, can we disable it?

it could be your ERG valve. i had to have mine replace and it's running fine now. i had the same problem, low idle, stalled on me twice. are you throwing a cel? the dealer should be able to diagnosis the problem real easy.

I have the same problem, and I also had to have my EGR valve changed but it wasnt because it was bad. I think I still had the "almost stall" once after it was changed too. It seems to happen on colder days to me.

I wish I could say that it only happens on colder days to me. Unfortunately, there are no colder days in Houston, so for me, temp doesn't make a diff.

are you guys throwing a cel? if so, don't clear and have the deal put it on the computer to read the code.

mine does this from time to time too (like 3 or 4 times ever), but not consistently, so i know they won't be able to reproduce it, so no fix would happen. no cel either

gotboost - the idle control is for high idle at startup yes. it can be disconnected yes, but i have no idea if that'll throw a cel.
