looking for hp

You have to unbolt the original manifold/egr tubr, disconnect the throttle cable. The P626 manifold doesnt have the vtcs/vics controls, so no need to swap the solenoids just unplug them - green and white plugs. You'll need some vacuum hose and a vacuum "t" cause there's one less hose fitting on the manifold. You can buy a used one , I think it's the 2000 626 FSDE manifold, if you want, but I prefer new parts and the PG mani comes brand new.
The PG garage manifold is on left the stock P5 is on right;

is it just a drop in and you swap all the stuff from the stock p5 manifold? and can i just snag one off ebay or do you have to buy that kit off PG as well?

As I've said many times on the forum, the 626 manifold swap is the single best N.A. power mod you can do, I Know I've done a lot.

I have to disagree with that. I just swapped back to a stock manifold that was gasket match ported, lightly polished and with the VTCS removed and not only does my car make smooth power all through the rpm range, but I'm getting better mileage than with the 626 unit that I just removed. With the 626, my car would be dirt slow below 3k rpm and then go like hell, which could give some people the illusion of Mazda vtak and feel faster than it actually is. I know, because my buddy that took my 626 manifold said it himself.

don't want to jack this thread or anything, but what options are there for hp gain in an auto/tap P5?

standard mods:
-cold air intake or a k&n drop in (i honestly think the stock airbox is better power wise, but i like the sound of my CAI :) )
- header (obx, ebay, thunder, etc)
- catback exhaust (racing beat, magnaflow, hks + custom piping, etc)
- and maybe some weight reduction if you're really serious lol (a/c, seats, spare tire removal)
- cams

these cars really dont respond too well to n/a mods like civics do... if you want a significant gain in power go for some boost!

flash your ECU over to Protege MP3 specs from a member on here. How would i do this? I dont know much about cars but like Ricky Bobby I wanna go fast"

Hate to break it to you, but the Pro isn't going to be a fast car for $300.

My advice would be to make it handle better rather than try to spend hundreds of dollars to eek out a few extra ponies.

For example, springs, struts, a sway bar or better tires will make the car feel much faster than the 5-10hp you might get from some expensive bolt ons.

That's my strategy anyway. When i bought my P5 a month ago, I decided that it was NEVER going to be a FAST car. And coming from a Mazdaspeed3, I knew this little 2.0L N/A motor was never going to compare to 263 boosted hp. It would be futile to try to make a P5 into a fast car on a budget.

Spending $300 on an intake for my Speed3 netted me about 20hp to the WHEELS. A header? $400 for another 25hp to the wheels.

Meanwhile, an intake for the P5 for the same price will get...maybe 3-5hp? Header? maybe 5-8hp. It just didn't make sense to spend money for returns like that.

So i'm going to resign myself to having a slow car that will corner hard and take the turns fast, rather than try to outrun people from a stop light.

Just my 2cents anyway. :)
