Looking at P5's. Leather or cloth interior?

I'm thinking about buying a P5. Can't decide on leather or cloth. Recommendations?

i like the feel of cloth personally, though lately i dont dig the pattern.

People complain about static alot with the cloth.

The leather option is pretty cheap, so if you like leather go for it. test drive leather and cloth and see whatcha like :)

Leather is nice, but it gets HOT in the summer
I got the cloth with some nice seat-covers.

I was all set to get the cloth, but my second test drive was in a car with leather, decided to go with it. It isn't as grippy as the cloth, you tend to slide around a bit more under hard cornering. But it feels really nice, even if it isn't super high quality. Plus I don't really dig the cloth pattern. Plain black cloth would look nicer in my opinion.

Don't have to worry about hot seats in the Seattle summer! But leather seats in the winter make my wife cringe.

I HATE my cloth seats becuase of the lint and hari and everything. Wish I would have got leather. Ill probably buy some new seats anyway when I get money(HA like ill ever have money!)

I love in So Cal, and avoid leather seats like the plauge. Nothing is worse than sitting on 120+ deg. seats! However, if I lived in a cooler area, Id have to go with the leather.

I'm all about leather, but it wasn't available at the time I got my car. I had it in my RX-7s. It's not so bad in the summer if you have tinted windows. Also, leather tends to clean up a little better than cloth if you or a passenger spills something on it.

I have the cloth and I'd choose it again. I've had leather in the past on other cars and I found that although it looks nice and expensive, that wasn't enough to offset its downsides (hot and sticky in the summer, cold and clammy in the winter). Yes, you have to clean fuzz and hair off the cloth once in a while but for me that's a small price to pay for seats that are actually comfortable to sit in year-round.

No way...you get a chilly sunny day in the winter (with the sunroof) it is the best feeling to hop in your car and feel the warm seat. I have never felt 'cold and clammy.'

We'll see how this New England Summer goes though. Can't comment on that yet.

With comfort aside, the leather interior makes the car look 10 times better. People get in it and can't believe its a cheap commuter car.

Its also a good excuse for not being able to take the dog (black lab) to the vet :) seeing as he refuses to sit in the back seat (if I folded it down), and besides he likes my dad's bronco the best because he's up high and can see everything.

Try a can of any "anti-static cling spray" found at your local grocery store- it works!

:D

My vote is for "cloth" too, I like it for all of the reasons already stated. I have found that leather gets to hot in the summer and feels to cold in the winter (although on my wife's Passat, which has leather - we've never used the seat warmer yet-since we live in Texas), also "cloth" is not as slippery when your taking those fast turns!

;)

Most of the cars I've owned have been cloth and have enjoyed them over leather. My MP5 is cloth - although I'll admit that leather looks much better ...

Thanks for all the replies. I actually haven't seen the leather yet in the P5, but I am partial to leather. My only dislike is that leather is usually slippery and makes it hard to stay put in the seat during hard cornering. I had leather seats in the Z28 I just sold. They looked ten times nicer than the cheap cloth Chevy was offering, but they were little slippery. The hot and cold factor doesn't bother me at all. I guess I'll head up to my local Mazda dealer for a test drive this weekend.

Any other recommendations? I'm definately getting black paint. I'm thinking the main options I'll want will be moonroof, ABS package, roof rack. These things come pretty loaded in the base version.

Looking forward to having a little cruiser like this. My Z28 was fun and really fast, but definately a big, heavy beast. Practicality is ruling my life these days. :( I figure I'll turn the P5 over to my 14 year old in a few years and buy myself another car at that time.

Those covers are

I've never had leather seats so I can't speak for that part. I think they look much nicer but if you find some good covers than it's the same.

Yes the lint does pile up on my cloth seats, but since I'm an anal bastard about a clean interior I don't even give it time to pile up and I'm always picking at my car for lint or cat fur.:D
