LinuxRacr's Haltech E6X Log..

I run closed loop control, so the A/F ratio is always around 14.7 at idle, and light cruise. I agree with your assessment, but that's what happened last night.

I have been running 67 from the get go. Is the 55 a MSP specific angle? All the others I have seen have been running 67. However, as we have seen in my thread, I had to advance the timing quite a bit to get the power and the cooler temps. However, this could be a response to what appears to be a lack of fuel pressure on my side.

Does increasing the trigger angle directly correspond to retarding the timing? i.e. one degree of trigger angle change equates to one degree of timing retard?

No, 55 is where it was set when I had it tuned by Steve Kan. He used s timing light to see where the mark acctually lined up when the timing was locked at 10 degrees. At 67, of course it was way off. At a trigger angle of 48, the mark lines up perfectly. He didn't want to go too far, so he set it at 55. 67 is what HiBoost uses.

interesting. Definitely interesting... I wonder how that might impact my setup

Well due to frustration about other issues, I went and retuned my car. I tuned it with a trigger angle of 67. I brought the timing up in the midrange, and my minimum timing there does not drop below 25 degrees! Before it went as low as 12 degrees. :( I can say that my car is almost as fast as it was with the previous tune, and smoother! It even idles a little different. I am happy to report that my manifold no longer glows after LONG pulls. (eekdance) Great to finally have something go good right today!

Below are my before and after maps. Those with the Halwin software, take a look at ignition timing map 1 on both files:

Hahaha (lol)

I did some reworking of my map today, and realized that it is starting to look more and more like Juan's ignition map for his HiBoost kit... Because of this, I went ahead and put in the 35 degree wall all the way across at 8000 RPM to mark the end of my map. I figured I may as well.. Below is the comparison between yesterday's product, and today's:

It's looking a lot like mine as well. I just have a bump in the higher RPMs to counter my AFR dip, where my fuel issue steps in. It is looking more like I need bigger injectors. Of course, getting the new house prepped has taken over all of my time, so I just have to settle for where I am now. The next big thing is to seal my exhaust leak.

Good luck on that exhaust leak. After I made the previous post, I went outside to start retuning. I suspected a vaccum leak, so I hunted that down and found that. The nipple on the manifold that would be connected to the cruise control if I had it had a vaccum cap on it. It split, so it was leaking. I went to AutoZone, and got a new cap, and a vaccum clamp and fixed it. After the tuning started, I found that I got better response by bringing up the lower end timing (outa boost). After taking care of that, I found that when I punched it, I got ping in the 4500-5500 RPM area. The timing was brought down in that area, and the pinging stopped. I then pulled over and smoothed out the map some. Tunning in 3D is SO much easier!! Below is what the result in the form of the file, and a picture of the ignition map:

Agreed on 3d tuning. It's a little weird at first getting the hang of it, but it works well. I strongly suggest studying the hotkeys via the help menu to find out what keys do what. The Home key, for instance, will align the center of however many points you have selected, to the actual conditions of your engine, which makes it handy for quick tune adjustments at cruise and such. It can also be used to target a specific point whether you are accelerating or whatever, just hit Home, and when you pull over you can make the adjustments.

I'll do ya one better. The space bar key does the same thing as the home key. I learned this while watching Steve Kan do my initial tune. It is a lot easier than reaching for the home key. That's what I used last night, and every other time. (thumb)

Awesome! It is about time you got that thing tuned right :)
I heard about your high EGT's from Apoc.
You should be able to put donw some nice, safe numbers. You are forged, and you have a stand alone. Rock on my brutha!!!(headbang)
What about your new parts?

Ok,

No more rich bogs at times!!! This feature fuggin OWNZ!! (eekdance)

Man I get this like a b**** down low. If I hammer it just right it runs like a little beast, at part throttle 15PSI, but it is a rich bogging b**** during lower RPM transistions. I think I am finally modded enough to really benefit from some emanage.

The parts are supposed to be here today.
