Lexus LFA

Maybe it’s just me but I’d rather own a car that is more rewarding and exciting to drive vice. one that’s merely quick. It’s often the immeasurable qualities of an automobile that get over looked. This is a shame because these “immeasurable qualities” are what makes an automobile so great and or worth the price of admission.

Yes a GT-R starts at around 84k and puts down numbers comparable / better than many cars costing 3-4X as much. But what people fail to realize is that the numbers a particular car puts down isn’t always directly related to it being the “superior” automobile in every sense of the word.

To say the Lexus LFA is a rip off knowing the technology, materials, engineering, etc that went into making it is ignorance at its best. This car is every bit or more capable vs. other super cars in its price range. And besides, like I mentioned numbers aren’t the only factor here unless you make your living winning car races.

A GT-R being just a tenth slower in the is a really dumb way to try and discredit / deem such a magnificent piece of machinery not worthy of its price. The bottom line is that you’ll never know the true value of a vehicle by just looking up 0-60, 1/4mile, lap times, etc. That’s a really generic and pathetic way to evaluate the worth of such an awesome automobile.

And if you haven’t figured it out by now Top Gear is full of s*** much of the time. Top Gear is al most entirely entertainment with just a tad bit of useful information. Basically, that’s a really crappy source to get an opinion of an automobile. And besides, if you haven’t driven the car who are you to judge?

If the shoe fits wear it.

The LFA buyers are hand selected for maximum public visibility. Lexus admitted that they will lose money on every LFA that rolls off the line.

For 350K I would want to see how is performs against a GTR, Z06, ZR1, 911 GT2... and hell, even some Ferraris. For $350 K that car better come with the one of those models they always have at car shows blind-folded with her hands and feet duct taped together in the trunk.

AMEN!
Did they by any chance ever cover the MS3?

Not in an actual episode. They had a review for the first gen (in the rain) and really disliked it. Now they have a review for the second gen and it was a little more positive, but still came up quite short against the competition.

I dunno if they have a very different of understanding what's good or if there's really such better hot hatch options in Europe.

I saw their review of the straight mazda 3 hatch, but not the speed version. All the other reviews I have read of the MS3 cant stop raving about it.

Keep in mind though, these guys test drive things like BMW, Ferrari and Austin Martins on a daily basis. If I went from a M3 to a MS3 I might be a bit bummed too.

They adore the GTI and they're not too shaby on the Focus RS, so I don't get their MS3 hate.

Personally I think the MS3 spanks the GTI like a red-headed step child. So do most of the reviews I have read. GTI is nice... but last time I checked the MS3 was faster. AND the MS3 doesn't cost $$$$$$ to fix.

personally... i would love a new ZO6 vette... i have a friend that has a 2005, another that has a 2003... both very fast cars. yes they have issues. i think they are rattle traps, loud, transmissions are flakey, the interior looks ten years older than the rest of the car, etc. etc... but HOLY $#!# the things are brutal fast with a few mods...

i will always have a soft spot for raw cars sporting big V8s with gobs and gobs of big tire burning torque and exciting power to weight ratios.... i have a softer spot if it's a chevrolet.

i love japanese cars, and might not ever own another american car... as an american, i don't feel like i owe the UAW anything, and i blame them for basically ruining the reputation and quality of the domestic car (yeah, i said it, kiss my ass).... but that said, if i had the cash, i would have a brand new ZO6 sitting in my garage right now.

this lexus thing is just an exercise... after a bit further review, i can see where they are going, but it's just not the car i'm interested in... i could care less that the car has a 'digital tach because the analog is too slow'.... big flipping deal. hmmmmmm dad's chevy luv has an 'analog' tach... a mechanical one hooked right up to the mallory drive on the distributor. pretty darn accurate. he can shift that 'analog' transmission pretty damn accurate also....

he turned 69 today.... happy birthday pops!

AGREED! They are as corrupt and greedy as the corporations they were meant to protect their members from! That and the american companies unwillingness to adapt, and offer any real completion to the consumer. To this day I still think we should have let them fail. It would not have been the end of the the world... except for the big wigs in the corporate offices, and the over paid union guys who were suddenly on the street.

But lets not thread jack this one.... back to the LFA. It is nice looking. While it only puts out 552 hp, it still has a wicked 0-60time. So they get the performance in the end which is an important aspect to me.

In the U.K. they aren't very impressed with the 1st GEN 3MPS mainly due to the suspension tuning and this so called “torque steer”. The 2nd GEN 3MPS received slightly better reviews because the suspension is tuned a lot better for bad roads, especially in the U.K. Also, the "euro-spec" 2nd Gen 3MPS is actually lighter by some 80 kilos vs. the 1st GEN 3MPS/MS3. Here in the U.S. we know the 10' MS3 is actually heavier than the 07-09' MS3. This explains why the 1st GEN MS3 is quicker around U.S. tracks such as VIR vs. the 2nd GEN but a bit slower around tracks that are using the “euro-spec” 2nd GEN 3MPS.

The VW GTI obviously makes a lot less torque and is thus not going to get as unsettled on the bad roads they have in the U.K. But of course, the value of an automobile goes far beyond test track numbers (something a lot of people can’t seem to wrap their head around). Perhaps they feel the VW GTI is more enjoyable to drive and live with on a day to day basis? And what difference does it really make if a car happens to run a couple tenths quicker to 60, etc when you actually have more fun driving the other?

You sir can take your "logic" and "rational thinking" and go elsewhere! We will have none of that around here!

To those who compare 1/4 mile times between the GT-R and the LFA, as if that's the "end all be all," that's just stupid in so many ways. But they've already been covered, so I'm not gonna repeat them.

Have fun with the straight line racing!!! (hi)

I'd take the LFA over the regular GTR any day. Now the 2010 GT-R Spec V is a totally different story.
