The difference in weight between motors is pretty slim. The FS has an iron block while the KL is aluminum, which keeps the weight difference minimal.
Same concept and myth with the LSx swap into Miatas. You are swapping an iron I4 for an aluminum V8.
Just a note, although I think you know this. The MS6 rotors measure out at 12.6" in the front and 12.4" in the rear. The only ones bigger in the front are the RX-8 at 12.7".... Just a bit of info for you.
Ripped from PT:
"Every model of Mazda6 front brakes fit our vehicles [PGT], if doing this setup; you must be consistent with the year model you are using. So if you by calipers for a specific model, you must buy the matching rotors and pads. Parts are not interchangeable between models. Here are the specifications of the different models and what wheel diameter is required for them to fit:
Disc diameter:
03-05 Mazda 6 => 11.1" => Fits no problem with a 16" wheel
06-07 Mazda 6 => 11.8" => Fits no problem with a 16" wheel
06-07 MazdaSpeed 6 => 12.6" => Must have a 17" wheel minimum"

With 280whp on tap, I think a few lbs in rotational mass will be almost not noticeable. And if it is, it's a small price to pay for not having the thought of brake fade dangling in the back of your mind while ripping up the track. You'll be at around 3x the power that the P5 came with, and those stock brakes are definitely not up to the task of hauling it down to 60 from 130-140mph on the back straight of Mid-Ohio lap after lap.
I'm not taking any chances of driving it before tuning
Shae, anything you want to include with the P5 would be awesome. But I don't want you to feel like you're getting ripped off, ya know? Want to throw in the RSB, Blizzacks and car cover? Of course I'll say yes. haha. But honestly, I've already got a Progress 22mm rear sway I would put in, the car won't see winters so I wouldn't need the Blizzaks but the cover would be aswesome when she's sleeping in the garage. But even if you want to throw all your extras in and I can sell them and send you a good chunk of the money they sold for. It's up to you.
Chris, PM me a price on the rotors. I looked up new (rebuilt) calipers from RockAuto and they're about $120 each so it's not too bad. Some clown wants $300 for a very used set here on 247. But I would swap both fronts and rear to make sure everything is still balanced on the chassis. I can't really see where upgrading rotor/caliper size would "hurt" any performance, per se. And I can check rotor clearances with my wheels when I have a setup on the P5. After more research is done of course. haha. But it would be nice to have MS6 brakes on the P5 for sure.
And in other news, looks like I'll be ordering a Turbonetics GT-K 350 next week. It should work very well for my application and a lot of the turbo PGT's are running that same trim.
Evan, been meaning to ask you, do you want any of the extras with the car?? The un-installed RB rear sway bar, blizzaks, etc? Since you're having the car shipped I'll be limited in what I can stuff in it...![]()
Check out EBay and message everyone. I was able to find a few guys selling Calipers and brackets for $40 each.
I'll get a price on rotors for you. Slotted only?
Just an FYI, our e-brake cable does not work with the rears, and you need to flip the calipers to the opposite sides so the bleeder is in the right location. I think some people made custom brackets for the rear to fit, but I've never seen any pictures of them.
195/50/15 mounted on steelies. They have decent tread life left. Enough for one more season I'd say.
Shipping companies don't like when cars are loaded up with stuff. I got an earful when I got the Bav because the previous owner loaded the trunk and back seat with stuff. Just a heads up.
