Do not wire the cooling fan to a switch! You'll either end up leaving it on all the time unnecessarily draining electricity or you'll forget it that one time and overheat while sitting in traffic. If you can't get the stock setup working there are plenty of aftermarket options available.

^^^ Yeah, that's what i was thinking. I wouldn't want a fan to constantly run because it would wear them out quickly and the car would probably take forever to warm up in the winter. I'll do some research after work or do Justins setup. Thanks, guys.

I spent like $30-$35 on a fan relay setup from advance. It was the non-adjustable one and works great, has option to have the second fan come on when the a/c is on if you have it, or if u run one v6 fan and had a/c u can have it so it uses the high mode on the fan, also has the option to run both fans when the temp reaches the correct spec. Its all in how you wire it, and it comes with the directions to do so. Great videos, definitely louder than mine. As for the knocking, was it knocking or ticking from the HLAs? if it is the HLAs then expect it at start-up when cold and it should go away as it warms up. Nothing to worry about much, just annoying.

Wow that sounds sick man!!! Do you think you'll be able to go to Mid-Ohio in July and run the HPDE?

Justin, does your setup turn on and off with the temp or is it always on? I'll have to dig through your KL build. Ideally, I would like both fans to run tandem and turn on/off when needed automatically (I don't have A/C anymore). I'll stop by Autozone/Advanced today and see what they have. A parts list would be awesome since those clowns who work there are very little help...

Evan #2- I'm going to try for MidOhio but only if the engine/car is running well. It's not worth the risk blowing anything up. heh-heh. ps- I'm eager to hear about Nelsons yesterday.

Those mount in the radiator fins, right? I've got a lot of research to do. I'm such a newb.

Happy Belated Bday you old man....aw s*** what does that make me? lol What a great bday present and nothing but the best in getting it all squared away and dd ready.

yes evan they turn on with temp, its a little prob that slides through the fins in the radiator. There are some kits, that can be threaded into the water neck if u drill and tap it, but the probe in the fins works great and installs in a few minutes.

I really hope to see you out there!

I'll have to stop by sometime this week, drop off your helmet, and tell you about Nelsons

well the plugs for the v6 fans run from the kl ecu are on a different part of the engine bay harness in the v6 cars, so unless u wire that all in, its not really easy to do. You could figure out a way i guess to have the protege ecu control it, but i tried it and no go, im guessing because the ecu doesnt see the engine running, but i dont know honestly its so easy to just buy the aftermarket relay setup that its not worth messing with to get the ecu to control it, plus if you buy an adjustable setup you can control when the fan turns on

So yeah... really late happy birthday here. And now... you've understood the difference between hobby wrenching, and what I normally have to deal with when one of my cars goes down. There's a big difference, and usually a good reason why I'm pissy as **** when I'm trying to keep my car running and everyone else is just having a good old time adding fun stuff to theirs. It's a pain in the ass, isn't it?

Sweeeeeeet. Speedo and tach works. You were right, Justin, wiring up the Dakota tach converter was pretty simple. Even I could handle it all on my own. heh-heh. And the speedometer works just fine. I've got an ABS light on probably for that pass/front ABS sesnor I snipped but that's okay. I didn't want ABS anyway, just a working speedo. So I'll just pull the bulb.

I need to find a KL brake booster hose tomorrow at Pull-a-Part with Wes though. I didn't know there was a check valve in there and my brakes are pretty mushy but firm up when the car is off. The Milly vacuum line is pretty short and I doubt it will reach to the P5 booster but hopefully I can just cut out the valve and insert it into the line with some clever engineering. Unless the brakes are mushy for some other reason. More research for tonight.

So the plan for tomorrow is the fan relay/temp trip and to wire up the fans correctly, find a way to get a check valve in the brake booster hose and start cutting off more P5 harness.

I took it for a ride around the block and it feels okay. My tranny is very sluggish to shift though. I changed the fluid with some Valvoline 75-90w before I mounted it to the motor and topped it off. I'm going to flush all the fluids in 500miles so it's just got cheap fluids in it now. Hopefully it will loosen up. But all the gears work. Though I only got up to 30mph and I didn't really get on the throttle.

Phen, I'm not too sure what you mean by your post, to be honest. I'm super thankful for all you guys for helping me out (honestly I couldn't have done it without everyones help) and to you for letting me use the Civic (and tools) for that time. But this is my only car but the swap was for fun reasons so I guess I have a little bit of both of your scenarios mixed up in there.

If you ever need a hand, just ask. I live with you. Haha. And I'm sure everyone else would help out too. But you have to ask for help and be direct about it. You've helped out cats before and in turn they will help you out. It's the "scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" thang. And I was scratching a lot of backs when you were in China. So I think that had a lot to do with locals helping me out. And as a rule, if someone comes over and helps me or gives me a ride, I buy them lunch or Tessa makes dinner. Then everyone is happy. Alright, this is getting way off topic, we'll chat later. heh-heh.

And not to get all mushy and s***, but sincerely, thank you to everyone who has helped me on this swap. It was a HUGE task (moreso than I expected) and I honestly couldn't have done any of it without you cats. No homo.
