be it strip or be it street, i'm sure that most all of us have raced before. I'd like to hear tips from you guys on launch rpm's shifting rpm's etc.

I would like to know this because the other day I got smoked by a 92-95 civic EX . i had 2 people in the car with me and he had one with him. he said that he was running just a header. I Didn't hear any rTurbo or intake under his hood when he revved either.

i smoked him from 20-60mph though but not from stop and go. im blaming it on wheel hop and weight.
what do you guys think?

not sure why you DOUBLE posted this thread...but be prepared to have one of them disappear...

and this thread belongs in the RACING/MOTORSPORTS forum....after all....that is what its for

(stash)

i double posted because i accidently posted under tires. and i posted it under the mp3 section because indeed, i own an mp3. i was asking for help from fellow mp3 owners.
:D
thanks for no help

Practice launching to avoid wheel hop and squealing. You want a chirp, but nothing more or less, and you don't want to bog it either. Also, don't redline in first (on my BP, 6 is perfect, 7 in the other gears). But you can't blame it on weight, you have more power than he does...

I was refering as to why you double posted in THIS forum....which you DID. and there is a reason we have forums with differing subject matter.....believe it or not....not just mp3 owners know about racing.

(stash) and your welcome for the help.....the help you were being given is to help YOU properly post your threads in the correct location.

no need to be an ass about it. i made a mistake. ohhh no the end of the world. jesus christ calm down you organization nazi.

You are barking up the wrong tree here with that attitude Minus! Nuke is the last person on here I would call an ass. He is a moderator and actually was helping you . If your post is in the right place then it will get more attention and is more likely to get a post that will help you. Don't take your anger at getting stomped and not being able to drive out on a nice guy like Nuke. Now to try and give you some help. Get in your car go to the dealership and trade for an auto. Either that or just go and practice somewhere like a parking lot until you get it right. BTW your launch will change depending on how much weight you are carrying. If you have several people in the car it will drive differently than when you are by yourself. But like posted above you are looking for a happy medium between roasting the tires and bogging down. Should be a nice chirp followed by smooth acceleration to redline and then a shift. When I am running someone I usually only take it up to like 3-4 and drop the clutch in first and then use 2nd and 3rd to take up the slack. With others in the car I usually take it a little higher than that. Hope that helps. BTW grab a beer from the fridge and go make nice with Nuke.

At the track I ussually hold the ebrake while I am staged, and rev the car up to 2500 RPMs and feather the clutch till the car is about to go. When the lights go I count to 3 and throw down the e brake and feather the clutch to try and eliminate wheel hop and take off. That is how I launch, the 3 count works too. My worst reaction time was a .901 and my best was a .551.(drinks)

LOL

Hehe Funwagon don't tell him an auto gets off the line better. I mean unless u have like a super drag tranny there is no way an auto should come outta the whole faster, especially when he is racing against the hondas and i mean all those damn hondas on the streets a manual should win everytime. The biggest cheat u can have is watch the oppisite light and when it hits red count to three and go. Make sure to go out catch some reds and make sure no blues are around ofcourse and take about a 3 grand rpm and let out the clutch and maybe u might have to flutter it a lil to keep from spinning too bad and since ur not boosted our cars have a power drop after about 5700 rpm's or so and so 6 grand is good for first gear and then take her to red for the other gears. Hope that helps.
Peace,
Zane

yes that helps. thanks
this is the first manual car i have owned. excuse me for being stupid but i wanted to learn before i go the hard way by myself and end up messing the transmission which is the last thing i want to do. and yes he may be trying to help but he was also apparently trying to make me look stupid for accidently double posting, and as for "FuNwaGoN"'s response about sir nuke being a moderator:rolleyes:... that makes no difference to me. I believe if you don't like the way someone is treating you then let them know it. :p

"yello-MP3" what do you mean by "flutter the clutch a little" ? are you meaning depress the clutch petal a little bit to keep from too much spinning.

and about being more powerful than the civic, I am not so sure of that. i believe that he had some sort of motor swap. He had lots of power off the line and his motor sounded like a beefier integra motor. but his only mod that he told me was a header and seemed pretty excited about racing. he also out ran an accord so i have my doubts that it was a SOHC stock motor. well, ill go pratice this. maybe ill get a friend with a stop watch and time my launches until i can get a nice clean launch.

As far as cops go, well after i raced the civic we went and talked to some other honda owners in a parking lot and then the cops showed up. I jumped in my car threw the emegrancy brake down and slammed it into first and squealed tires all the way out of the parking lot and gunned it down the four lane running through two yellow lights and hooked a left and then a right into macaroni grill parking lot and then rolled on over behind office max. we sat there for about five to ten minutes with the lights off and then began to coast out from behind the building and see a cop that had pulled over a crx that was in the parking lot and kepted following me. I cut on the lights and continued creeping past them (they were down a small hill about 20 yards away) and the cop flashed his lights at us and I immidiatly sped off out of the parking lot making a left and then another left and turned onto the interstate and hid beside transfer trucks until we got out of tennessee. From there we were home free. :D

LOL

First to answer ur question. Wat i mean by fluttering i mean if u let the clutch out too much at first and start spinning the tires then depress the clutch a lil so to take a lil power away and then let it backout. Thats fluttering the clutch.
Now about ur story... Hehe sound like some high adrinaline action. I go street racingor really i should say i go watch for the most part evrey friday saturday and i have one of those stores every time. I relly feel like fast and the furious lol as gay as that might sound Heh so peace and be safe just remember as with most things practice makes perfect or atleast better.
Peace,
Zane

damn.......ur hot-headed. You post a thread about racing in the tires section then get pissed when they move it??

They were pretty courteous about it if you ask me.

Sup Yellow. Wasn't trying to tell him the auto is better was just trying to be sarcastic. Actually kind of funny because he posted the reason why I was being sarcastic about it in one of his posts. He said it was his first manual tans. That is what I figured or assumed and thats why I made the comment on the auto.

Now to address something else with Minus about his other posts. What are you thinking running from the cops and then hiding????:wtf: Not trying to start s*** but I was young once too and did some really stupid things. Running from the cops is a real easy way to get your car impounded and you locked up. trust me I have a friend that just got his license back because of something stupid he did when he was 18. He is now 25. He had some pot in his car and got pulled and when the cop began to walk up he sped off. Long chase and him with no license for like 6 years. Oh yeah he wrecked his car that night too. Just don't want to see the same thing happen to you. Like I said not starting anything but you are telling us in the same post that you aren't that familiar with a manual trans and that you are trying to escape the cops. Those two things don't go together very well.

Man I feel old now. :'( :'( Actually saying to someone Damn Kids!!!! Oh well you could always adopt my favorite bumper sticker. Drive it like you stole it!

From a dead stop, I have found the following works the best in my P5.

From ~2750Rpms, slip the clutch quickly, not letting it fully engage until about 2500 Rpms, then slipping it the rest of the way (all that should take about .5 seconds.). This keeps you from dropping it too harshly and getting all that damned annoying wheel hop. Run 1st gear all the way to red-line, and shift at ~6000 Rpms in every consecutive gear (If your car is pretty much stock). According to my G-tech (bulls***-o-meter) I am pulling the lowest times with that method. Anyways, it all amounts to practice... Have fun.

for starters guys...thanks for the support...

Minus...you read my post too litterly....I was NOT trying to make you look stupid, I would never do that, its not my way....these guys can tell you that.

just as a note....in the future...if you ever ACCIDENTLY put a post in the wrong forum, or accitently double post by hitting the "submitt post" button twice, its happned to me even...and you realize that....insted of making a duplicate post in another forum, or leaveing the double post in the same forum....all you need to do is go to the top of that forum....click on one of the names of the moderators of that forum....tell them you made a mistake and posted it in the wrong place, or double posted or whatever and ask them to move it to the correct forum, or correct the problem....they will gladly do that...and be very appreciative of the fact that you cared enough to even bother contacting them....believe me...it generates respect for YOU.

as for the Orgainzation Nazi comment....yes I like things organized...we all do....if we didn't...we would only have one big forum and you would never be able to find anything....nor would you be able to give the attention to the areas of interest that you have.....
