So have any of you protege owners noticed water in your trunk under the carpeting (like in the spare tire well).

The first attached pic is of the spare tire wheel well. I get water leakage in there I think from that funky circle plug thing that the arrows are pointing to.

The 2nd pic is of the little cubby-hole thing on the driver's side of the trunk just under the carpet. That thing has water in it almost constantly - dirty water too so I know it's coming from outside. Can someone look at theirs and tell me if they have a little hole where that 1 arrow is pointing to? And anyway, does anyone else have this problem with a trunk that fills up with f*cking water?

Well f*ck. Yeah I don't doubt that my POS car hates me. Just sunk nearly $1000 in "maintainance" into her too. Sigh.(deadhorse

my protege had water in it everytime it rained or i washed it. i remember reading somewhere it has something to do with the tail lights

hmm thats weird! you guys must have some heavy rain where your located lol

I have water coming in to my trunk. thought it was the liner along the top but turned out to be on the passanger taillight where the wires go into the car. apparently the rubber grommet isn't doing it's job. one day when I am not lazy I will get some silicone or something and do something about it

WAit, you have a p5 or sedan?

I had a massive water leak from somewhere.. both side "cubby hole" things were full of water and my spare tire well was 1/2 filled with water also..

we pretty much figured that it was coming from my tail lights (aftermarket lights) The seals were all brittle so I siliconed around everything.. been parked in the rain and no more water.

I got the sedan. Basically it's just like you described. The only thing is I'm pretty sure mine isn't coming from the tail lights because the carpet is never wet (so it must be coming from the bottom upward) and also there was 1 day when it POURED for a few hours with my car parked -- I checked it before moving the car and it had no water in it. I think it's getting in there mainly when the car is moving in wet conditions. Although it's weird because the spare tire well always has clean water in it (no sand) but the cubby hole always has dirty-ass water in it.

Can anyone check their little cubby-hole thing and see if they have a hole in theirs in the same spot I have a hole? I don't understand WTF that hole is there for...it looks like it's supposed to be covered with silicone and 1 of the assembly monkies missed it or something...

do a search on the other two protege boards and you'll see it happened to a bunch of us 99-00 guys as well. I have two holes that were drilled out to act like a drainage system. It's gotta be a design error from the factory, way too many of us have had this.

Ah dry that wee, little, wet vagina me boy-o. I to have said wetness in the jack recess. It was only moist but on one occassion and ever since has been as dry as an Irish's Noons holy of holies.

Hmmm....this happened to me and I blamed it on bad body work I had on that side and I made the body shop fix it hahaha. Either way, the same body shop would have fixed it under warranty claim so, whatever. What was really bad was the amount of sand and salt that ended up in my trunk in that exact spot. I almost ripped my whole trunk apart loking for the exact source of the leak, but the REAL source of the leak isn't visable from the trunk, trust me. It's behind coming from the left wheel-well past the gas cap area....if that makes any sense.

Sweeet! Somebody who sounds like they know what they're talking about! So WTH - I guess I just have to take it to the dealer a bunch of times so they can try to figure it out? Was it leaking on a "body seam" or something or what?

My carpet wasnt wet either.. it leaks from below.. then kinda sloshes around when you are driving and gets everywhere else. The underneath of the carpet/spare tire cover was wet, not the top.

yeah i have a 96 neon and the tail light wouldn't seal all the way with the body, so i bought some epoxy(rubber sealant junk) from lowe's and sealed that sucker shut for ever
