Largest tire without causing issues?

Good evening,

2021 CX5 GT with 225 55R 19s.

What is the largest diameter tire I can install without causing rub or any issues? I am looking for more sidewall but don't really want to shell out for smaller rims.

Thanks

The stock tire is already 2" wider than the 7" wide rim which for my tastes is about the limit, but you won't have to worry about rubbing if you go larger. Not until you exceed 9.5" wheels at stock offset (given normal tire sizes, which would be about 255/50's on a 19x9.5" wheel). If you're in that range you should measure extensively and don't order anything you can't return.

are you looking for more sidewall for a smoother ride?If so the other option is to find a set of 17" wheels a tire like a 235/65-17 would be just slightly taller and wider but quite a bit more sidewall height. Tire Size Comparison

You realize that if you keep the same rims but add taller tires, your speedometer (and odometer) will then read lower speed/distance than actual, right?

Yes to both. Would have the speedo recalibrated.
What would be ideal for me, is to get 17" rims and then upsize the sidewall to bring me back to original diameter. The difficulty I'm having is the cost of 4 new rims.

Ok, maybe I'm overthinking this. The question for me is, do you off road on 225/ 55 R 19s?

If so, what tire should I be looking at?

I agree. Not really offroading. Driving on the beach and stuff. Airing down the tires on sand, but I don't think I can air these down much at all.
might see if you can find someone with 17" wheels that wants to trade and go with 235/65-17 tires. look at something like a Toyo ATIII or Falken wildpeak at4w
