Larger Injectors For Forced Induction

okay, you guys are all MSP's, I have a turbocharced 2001 LX. Are my injectors the same as yours? I'm only running 6psi on my t28 "disco potato), do i even need to upgrade them? and if i do upgrade them, will i ABSULUTELY need to run a stand-alone system? thank in advance for all the help

Yes, the injectors are the same. At 6 psi on your turbo you don't need to upgrade them.. once you get over around 10 or 12 psi is when you start needing to.

As far as if you need a standalone... talk to DSM Convert or MPNick to see if either of their systems can handle bigger injectors.... I'm not 100% sure what they can do in that department... so I recommend talking to them. Otherwise, if you do have to go Standalone... the Microtech's I sell are the cheapest... and they run just over a grand (right around 1100) for the full unit.

Thanks!

Steve

Is this a plug&play system, ie requireing no further modifications? does it come preset to my configuration or will it require tuning. If so, how easy will it be for me to find tuners for this system. (keep in mind i live in las vegas and there are a number of tuners here)

It is not a plug and play system but it is very easy to hook up! If you can wire up a stereo system you can wire up the microtech. It uses all of the stock sensors so there is no added equiptment needed. As far as tuning goes, it is very easy to tune yourself! I had absolutly no expereance with tuning and I was able to tune my own car with the help of Steve (Turfburn). Once he put me in the right area it is very easy to catch on to the aspect of tuning. I would say the only other thing you would need is a wideband A/F gauge. Without it you will not be able to tune it good and I would not recommend tuning without one. We will have a bunch of base maps in the very near future for the stock injectors as well as 550cc injectors.

There is NO plug and play system for the Protege's that is tunable. If you can wire in a new stereo head unit you can wire the Microtech. Takes about 1.5-2 hours to do yourself. Any tuner can tune on it, but one of the HUGE advantages of the Microtech is it is so simple to tune that I can teach you how to do it in less than an hour over the phone. You just need to have a wideband in the car and that's it.

We provide initial base maps that should get the car started for you. After that the rest of the fuel maps need to be tweaked to be right for your car. I can map an entire car in about 30 minutes on the road for a rough tune... so it doesn't take much time. I believe the first couple guys found that with a co-pilot they could get the car rough mapped to be daily driveable in about 1.5 hours.

Thanks!

Didn't see Dave's post... but obviously he was right on with what I ended up posting too.

sweetness!!!!! give me about a month or so to save up for the unit then you'll definately be hearing from me. (I'm active duty Air Force, so money is a little tight seeing as how they dont pay us that well). Will you be having injector upgrades also? that way I dont have to shop around. I'll just get everything from one place. BTW thanks for answering my tech questions

Sounds good :). I can work on getting you injector upgrades... I'd likely just source them through RC or one of my warehouses... so I can cover that for you.

No problem on the tech questions.. happy to help out no matter what. Watch for dynos soon too so you can see/compare the power we are hoping to make versus the other EMS's out there.

Later!

I'm not sure where mine came from. I have 4 550cc injectors that Terry put in the car originally, and they fit perfect with no modifications whatsoever for the stock rail.

Will they plug into the P5 harness? Were they from an RX-7 ? I have a chance to pick up a used set from an RX-7 locally if they will work for me.

No, the injectors we use are a MOPAR injector from an older car. They require an MSD connector to be plugged into the harness. It's an easy wiring job if needed... but they are definitely not directly compatible with the normal protege harnesses.

Okay, thanks.

Will these RC440 injectors work with the P5 harness and rail?

Looks like the bolts with spacers are close, but the o-rings are wrong, and the connectors are wrong. So they won't fit in and seal up proper and you won't be able to connecto the the harness.

BTW... our full 550cc package for use with cars that can handle low impedance injectors (Haltech or Microtech) for under 300 bucks... Just in case ;) LOL. But yeah, sorry what you have 'as is' will not go in.
