knocking in engine on cooled start.

I was wondering if someone could help me out with this. The only engine mod I have is an injen cai. When I go to start up my MSP it starts with a quick knocking. It only does it on a cold start. Do I need to go to a better oil? (uhm)

so the motor is rocking? if so then its because the motor mounts and stock exhaust hangers on msps are not up to par with keeping the exhaust hitting on startups. You would need kartboy hangers or solid motormounts to cure the problem.

is it knocking or ticking? the motor has a butterfly valve system that tumbles the air, making the engine noisy while coming to operating temperature. the valvetrain is also quite noisy.

the valvetrain might be getting dry due to a crappy anti-drainback valve in the oil filter, try a different brand of oil filter and maybe oil that flows better when cold

Thanks for the input guys. I think it might be the oil. I was thinking of going to synthetic oil or use synthetic blend.

I got this once, when using a Fram filter (Only once, ever), then switched back to a Mazda filter (I generally use either Mazda or Mobil 1 filters), and amazingly, I had no problem anymore! Just an idea. =) Anti drainback valves fail on some of the crappier quality filters out there, unfortunatly.
