Why go 40? your ride will be harsher, more chances of bending your rim and your speedo will be off also....
Just wondering...I don't know anything about those tires... but check out www.tirerack.com they have reviews of such on the tires performance.

Kuhmo 712s are great tires. Great grip, good wet weather traction also. A lot of people use them for autocrossing. They have really good grip for the STS classes and a lot of stock classes use them also. They wear pretty well also. Only downside I've heard of is a little more noise, but at our tire size they're all loud.
It's a pretty good deal at $79 a tire. If it's mounted and balanced also, Go For It! Are you replacing your old dunlops? How much tread depth is left on them? I might be interested in using them as race tires if I can get some new rims cheap.

cj- no problem.. i'll get these this afternoon.. (if i can get another lock key, i lost mine when i changed my tire). the flat was in my front driverside tire. the front passenger side is pretty warn.. the back two are pretty good, could go for a good while longer. I'll sell them to you cheap with shipping. pm me a price.

just a side note, along with the smaller rolling distance of the smaller tire, the speedometer will be a bit off (as stated earlier) and your miles will be more than you really drove (not too significant in the short term, but the long run, it could always factor in...)

That's a decent deal. I'd opt fpr the 711's over the 712. They're good for the money you pay, but they're definately not Dunlops. I payed $343 shipped from tirerack a while back for my 17's on my Civic. Sad thing is that almost every tire you get will be a step down. The dunlops set a pretty high standard.
I have the Khumo 712s on Enkei CDR9s they have great grip both dry and wet, I have not had them long enough to have used them in snow but I like them. They are better than the Dunlop SP 5000s for sure. I haven't noticed an increase in ride noise at all over stock they are pretty much the same.
I'm not sure if you know, but the MP3's come with SP 9000's. Not 5000. I'm pretty sure that the wet traction and all around performance for that matter is much better than the 712's. Especially in the braking and accelerating department. But if you're going for per-dollar performance, than yes the 712's will do the job. But remember the Dunlops aren't cheap tires for a reason.

Tell me about it! I've been spending a lot of time looking to get a full new set of wheels and tires using the 9000s as the tire. They run over $130 a piece at the best I cna find! For that price, I'll probably step up to the S0-3s just to gain a little performance on the track. From what I've heard and read, they are the stickiest thing out there, and only about $10-15 more than the 9000s. Now, anyone wanna sponsor an MP3?

Stay away from kuhmo's unless your totaly broke and have no other choice. they are cheap for a reason. Same with Toyo's, they just have great marketers. Stick with the good brands, SO-3's are the shiznit. Also check out B.F.G. G-Force KD's. When B.F.G. brought out a Porche club in Cali to check out the tire, the Porche owners were buying 2 to 3 sets at a time right there at the track. If you can afford it look at the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, The tire has three different rubber compounds on the tread. No one else on earth can do this, The outside edges are set up for dry weather and hanging it out. The center rib is 100% silica for wet treaction, and in between is a 50/50 mixture of both. It also has kevlar in the sidewalls and shoulders.
