Keyfob programming Problem

After opening and closing those fricking doors 100 times, I'm asking for help ;)

The deal is that I have 2 working keys. Both the jacknife model. One of the fobs work. I now want to program the the other. Here is what I did:

Open drivers door
put key in ignition (The non-programmed one)
key lock-on-lock-on-lock-on-lock
door: close-open-close-open-close-open

ECU locks and unlocks door.

HEre is where things go bad. No amount of button pushing on the remote generates another auto-lock-unlock (showing that it worked). I have tried pushing the lock button, the unlock button, pushing both twice, etc. Nothing happens. Any ideas?

I've also tried the original (and working) keyfob, which also doesn't seem to "reprogram"

Assuming the programming instructions are the same for the 5 as for the 3 (and they should be) you're missing a step. Try this

Step 1: Open driver side door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and Unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn Key to ON position and return to Lock (off) position. Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. LEAVE key in the ignition in Lock (off) position.

Step 5: Close and open the drivers door 3 times. Leave door open after this step

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors once.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Additional remotes, repeat Step 7 for up to 3 remotes total.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series (about 4) of door locks and unlocks. You're done!

Yeah, I did that too. I think its entering the program mode fine because it does the lock/unlock cycle after the last door open/close...... hmmmmm

Does the FCC ID# match your other key fobs?. I had a '06 MPV key fob that I could not program and then discovered the FCC ID# did not match the original fob for our 5. Purchased another fob online and made sure the FCC ID# matched and was able to program it without any issues.

be aware some of the early FOBs had a ground pin issue...wasn't touching battery contacts to FOB. I have opened a few and just bent up the ground pin and all was good..

I thought you needed two programmed keys to progam a third key, short of that I think you need to go to the dealer(again not sure)

I'm having the same problem, and no, it's not a problem with they key, as beckkl said, which you can know because even the original key (which works) won't reprogram.

I got some additional information. If nothing happens when you press the remote key button twice, you're supposed to "press the driver's door courtesy light button once, and start the process over with the door open."

My problem is: where is the driver's door courtesy light button? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any ideas?

beckkl: once you've pressed that button once, the door lock is supposed to respond by locking and unlocking twice.

Yes, you have to have two working keys to program a key.... he's programming a remote. I realize that they're attached to each other, but they're still two independent parts.

wow , my keyfob just stopped working and its not the battery its been working fine, where is the ground pin can you explain this? i know when u take the battery out its got that pin it sits on with the 3 corners

update:

after trying a long time to program the remote myself, I took it to the dealership for programming. the tech guy did the exact same process (opening the door, turning the key 3 times, etc.) as I had done, and...the remote didn't program.

he returned the key to me and told me there is no trick to it, it either works or it doesn't. with that key it didn't. because I had purchased 2 keys from the oem remote guy, and one had worked, I figured I must have purchased one bum key.

I returned it to the guy, gave him the FCC numbers of the key that did work, and he sent me a new one, which programmed on the very first try.

so if you do the process and it doesn't work, verify that you got a key with the correct FCC numbers. (these can be found inside the key if you take the key part off of the remote part, they're stamped on the remote side and are very very small).
