Kartboy Squeak - Help

With the return of warm weather my Kartboy shifter has started to squeak. I first installed it last September using high temp wheel bearing grease. Recently it has started to squeak, but only when the temperature is warm and the car has been driven long enough to get a good heat soak going. Last weekend I replaced the grease with synthetic brake caliper grease containing graphite. The action was very smooth but Monday afternoon the noise was back.

My next step will be to try silicone grease if I can locate a source. Does anyone know where I can buy some? Any other suggestions?

are you greasing both the ball pivot and the bolt through the bottom in the shifter fork linkage?

So far just the ball pivot. I thought about lubing the bolt but the noise was so pronounced that I assumed it was the ball. You make a good point. The bolt to the linkage will be next.

I plan on installing my shifter as soon as my sparco knob comes in. What exactly should I be greasing? I got grease, but I'm not sure if it's High Temp. Should I get high temp grease?

i just used regular automotive grease and have had no problems yet. some people recommend white lithium grease, some say light bearing grease. i think almost anything will work.

you should be greasing the pivot ball and the bolt in the linkage.

one thing a couple people have missed is to make make sure you keep the stock bushings at the end of the shifter to put on the kartboy shifter.

also you will need to bend down your heatsheild a bit. you can just yank it down with your bare hands.

the install will be gravy if you have snap ring pliers. if you dont, it will be.... not fun. :)

Well I checked the linkage bolt this past weekend and it was dry. I greased it with the same brake caliper lube and have not heard a noise since. The action is much smoother now.

i applied a liberal amount of white lithium grease all around the pivot ball. I think it come stock with white silicone grease, but i couldnt find that anywhere. I have had no squeak so far.

Lube er up, should do the trick
