K&N Flat Panel Air Filter Helps

Yeah I know you can go to Home Depot and fab anything...
I just thinking about trying a panel filter until I get a sri or cai.

Listen here you limped dick bastard. You ****** face sheep-herders act like an intake is going to give you another 20hp to the wheels. No doubt, a good intake system is going to make the car as a whole run much better, but I SINCERELY doubt you're ever going to mod the intake enough to see any decent increase in power. It would be MUCH better and MUCH more money effecient to fix the intercooler instead you retards. Thats what's holding you stupid bitches back and you just don't get it.

A ******* turbo charger relys more on SOUND and ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE than it does on more intake air. A combination of pressure waves from opening exhaust valves and inert gasses drive the turbine wheel.

You guys are gonna do real good sucking in alot of hot air. No matter where you ******* place that Autozone filter its gonna be almost totally useless unless you start cooling charge air first you dimwits.

Kenetix..you are SO ******* HARDCORE...I wish I was as cool as you...

Jeez, kenetix, you are an ass hole and stupid too.

I am not going to arguebut a turbo system bases its usefulness on air. Intake and Exhaust. I dont think it will make boost go up, but it is necessary to make any power ona turbo system.

Chilling the intake charge at 8 psi and 170 hp is not that great of an initial upgrade. That is necessary further down the line. You will probably get 8-10 hp from an intake and 2-3 from an IC. However, after you install and Intake, you have more air to chill, so the effeciency of the intercooler is greater, thus you get more power from an IC after you have som initial upgrades. Alternatively, If you have an extremely restrictive exhaust, you will not make that much power no matter what else you upgrade. It has to be done in stages.

Why do you have to act like such a child?

Why cant you just step back for a second and look at the whole picture. What were saying is that if your airbox is acting as a restriction, changing it over to a free flowing intake WILL raise your boost.

Like I said, if you dont believe me, try my little experiment. If Im wrong, you can come her and call me names and Ill leave forever. If Im right, I just hope that youve learned something and in the future wont be so quick to jump down peoples throats ( and consequently, make yourself look like an ass ).

Why is it you have all this free time to post to insult people, yet the thread that everyone actually wants to hear from you on is being ignored   ???

What, you got called out by people that actually know what they are talking about, so you just ignore it? If you even had the knowledge, you could even "make up" a mods list that fits the claims and *maybe* some people would actually believe it.

He obviously doesnt know much of anything ( save a few obscenities  )

Well, the way I took that statement was that if you install a K&N filter, it'll raise your PSI from say 5.9 to 6.1 psi. That makes no sense to me, which is why I agreed with Kinetix.

Better flowing air is good for any engine, however, he was right about the intercooler... It just doesn't do enough as is to justify changing out the air filter. Granted, you pull more air in, but without a better intercooler, the air is still going to be hot and (someone correct me if I'm wrong on all of this, I'm in no way a car expert) not as condensed as colder air.

I think. :D

Go to the RX-7 forum and search for "TID mod". Its a common thing to do on our cars. The airbox and piping is restrictive, so well fabircate some PCV piping of large diameter and minimal bends with a cone filter at the end. Its well known to raise boost anywhere from one to two PSI easy. Many people have also blown their engines because of it too.

But like I said to him, try the experiement I said and see it for yourself.

Just a note...
If your exhaust is already restrictive, an intake wont make much of a difference at all.

Well. I certainly didn't mean to start this. I went the K&N flat panel route with stock airbox because a lot of people were saying the cone filter actually decreased the power output in large sections of the powerband, and the posted dyno results bore this out. The filter definitely made my car more tractable at lower RPM, and a little smoother up top, and I just wanted to share the info.

As far as the part number of the filter, it's 33-2134. It's the same panel filter the regular Protege uses. Evidently, the bottom of the airbox is identical to a non-Speed Protege's airbox. Just go to K&N or Auto Barn's web site and use the drop down boxes to plug in 2003 Mazda Protege, (or 2002 for that matter), and it'll come up with the right filter.

Why!!! This certainly is a 'FUN' thread!!!

(rofl)

I am still using my RU-3580 K&N Cone Filter, and all is well. Maybe I am losing a bit of HP; I don't honestly know. I'm running about 10psi; so that must make up for some!!

I know, I lost that damned Callaway plastic elbow from the stock airbox. If I could readily get another (anyone know where?), I might put the airbox back on and get the K&N Panel filter.

Later; A CAI.
