damn man... that really does suck man.... hopefully you will atleast be able to get it goin soon.. if u want, i can pic up the head from alex for you cause im in sc right now for the weekend. then i can drop it off to you on monday?? let me know..

yea, right now im just thinking of finishing with the polishing on all the wheels, and then just selling them. **** being stanced, i love how it looks and would love to have my car like that, but its not gonna work with the power im wanting to put down.

Emailed Sam about the Supertech Valves, Springs, Ti Retainers, Maganese Bronze Valve Guides, and the oil squirter. Hopefully he gets back to me pretty soon on how much all that would cost and if he even has any valves in stock. Im hoping we can work something out...

how much you want for it?
it's something like 980.00 shipped.

Ok well...just had a what the **** moment. I just pulled the head off the car, took me 2 hours. Only to find, the exhaust valves are perfect. the hell?!
so im kinda stuck...I have to buy a new head gasket, and I saved all the coolant, so thats not a big deal. The cylinders look pretty good, the pistons just have a little carbon build up but look good. the valves go all the way in normally so I know there not bent....anybody know what the hell it could be? I have pics but ill upload those later

No, it cant be either. heres why. There was zero air coming out of the dipstick or oi filler cap. so its not the rings.
There WAS air coming out of cyl 4, once we put the plug back into cyl 4 the air started going out of the exhaust. Which could only mean that the exhaust valves werent sealing

The plugs looked ok i guess, im going to grab some new ones when I put it back together.

Could there be some carbon or something caught between an exhaust valve and the head? I don't know much about this kind of stuff but it sounds like a valve isn't seated perfectly against the head...

theres nothing there....i looked lol the valves in cyl 2 look exactly the same as the others...ill take a closer look tomorrow and see if I can figure this out, im dead tired after work today

pics as promised, oh and btw...i found the ****** EGR cap as you can see in one of the pics.
It fell off and was just laying in the top of that dome piece next to the front engine mount.

took a closer look in the sunlight...nothings standing out, im just going to take it to school monday, throw it in the parts washer, and re-seat the exhaust valves in Cyl2.
thats the only thing it could be, that the valves didnt seat right and they arent creating a seal

Just ordered a new headgasket. picking it up from montgomery mazda sometime this week before work since there right across the street.
Im not gonna waste any more time with trying to figure this out,
If the re-seating doesnt work, then **** it, at least I know nothings messed up internally anymore. I really hope it works though lol would be awesome to have a car with no CEL and a good idle

nope, never overheated. I looked for cracks, but finding a crack in an alum head is pretty hard lol wish it was as easy as cast iron heads

nah, im not giving up, depending on some other things i may just get a different set of wheels that no one else is, or will ever, run on a protege

and also FOUND THE SNEAKY BASTARD :D
had a great idea given to me by a fellow tech at work, so I pulled the exhaust manifold off the head, and immediately I saw which one was bad, the color gave it away.
Poured water into the exhaust port and the water was just dripping out of the valve. Crazy....so im pulling the valves out of that cyl to further examine them, if the head is good but the valve is toast, ill just buy another exhaust valve and be done

That is AWESOME. Luckily for you, even if it is the head they're not hard to come by (scratchnsniff to the rescue!).

Good work man, I love learning these tricks of the trade :)

Noice. Good idea with the water trick. Hopefully she'll be back up and running and putting a smile on your face once again.
