06 MazdaSpeed 6
I just purchased am 06 speed 6 GT for 22,400 with 10k miles. Pretty awesome car and I'm definitely glad I was able to get my hands on one since their really rare here in Vegas.

Considering the car is used, it is in perfect shape, but my only complaint is a "wining" or slight whistle noise which appears only when the car is at 45-49 mph. It doesnt matter what gear I'm in, or if i'm speeding up or slowing down, the sound will appear. I am going to call Mazda tomorrow and have them check it out but I wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

Oh yeah, what is a good Blow off valve to pick up which would decrease the turbo lag a little...or anything after market that would help. Thanks.

Mike

thats normal when you hear the whine, its the rear differential and thats exactly when you should hear it. Click your ebrake up one notch and it goes away (this is cause it makes your car 2wd). Glad to see your purchase is this car and welcome :)

it doesn't make it truly 2wd because there have been scenarios where people had it on a lift clicked the ebrake and the rear wheels still spin slightly.

as for a blow off valve. none are going to drastically reduce turbo lag as this car doesn't have much to begin with. i wouldn't go with a blow off valve but rather a bypass valve (same thing but instead of vent to air it recirculates the air) by recirculating the air this may help with lag because it will help keep the turbo spinning when you let off the throttle to shift. i have a 1g DSM bypass valve and it works awesome compared to stock and doesn't have an annoying sound that you may find with other valves, mainly forge. it also is a cheap solution as one of those valves can be had on ebay for around $20, all thats need for it to work is the mounting holes be widened so they mate up to the stock holes. Other valves out there are HKS (~$280) and Greddy (~$280) and the forge ($170). There are others but i don't feel like listing everything.

So I did click the ebrake up one notch, and i did notice that the noise decreased to almost nothing. However, being that the ebrake light is on while its clicked up one notch, is that good for the brakes? Will it wear them down faster? And what is DSC. Is that stability control, and should it only be on when the weather conditions call for it? I heard that leaving it off increases performance and power?

Hey welcome to the proud owners of a ms6! Where did you buy it at? I am also in Vegas and also a proud owner of a ms6! Hope to see you around!

Stop by my peeps house and say hi..they live in henderson. :)

All kidding aside...Congrats on teh speed!

mike driving around with the ebrake up i click basically makes your car a front driver negating the extra money spent to get a AWD car... As for stability control leave it on its there as a safety net in case you get in to far over your head not just for rainy days......

Take the tech out on a drive and show him that pulling slightly up on the ebrake gets rid of the dif whine. They will replace it if you have a good dealer. Or if they call the techline about it, it will be a replacement of the dif section only.

I live in Henderson too...

Tell you what.. if you take your car up to Courtesy, talk to Cedric and tell him that you want Albert to work on it.. you will be in the best hands... Albert is a friend of mine who also owns a speed6 and a miata. He is a certified Mazdaspeed tech now and has worked on my car when I had to have a few things done. Cedric is the service manager and will treat ya right.. tell him Cory with the speed6 sent you.. he will know me..

I already spoke to ALbert, so just mention it to him that I sent you. They will do their best for ya. ALbert is a good guy. He is a little asian guy but well trusted. Especially since he owns a speed too! So, dont forget, when you go up there or call, talk directly to Cedric and tell him you want Albert to work on it.

Don't pull the ebrake when driving!

BOVs do not decrease lag. They allow you to hold more boost. I have the TXS hrbrid recirc BOV & love it

Yay for MS6's in vegas! I hope to see you around, i drive in and around Summerlin sometimes. Im more toward boulder city. =)
