Just bought NFS-underground

PC games can't touch console games. It would take a $3K machine built solely for gaming to out-class the capabilites of these consoles. What video card are you running? How much did it cost you? How much ram do you have? How much did it cost? What processor? What sound card?? I'd love to see what consistant framerates you pull running in split screen with full effects. For $99 you can get a Gamecube and 4 of the best games ever made. Ever priced a Mac G4?? PC games are all the same, they're either FPS, RTS, or MMORPG....thats it...it's so played out.

oh sorry .......here's why PC's can't touch consoles.

PC games have to be made to run on the minimum system requirements. Since Consoles all have the same system requirements developers know what they have to work with and can maximize the graphics and sound accordingly.

A proper PC will produce far better graphics than any current console. The only instance in which consoles excel is heavy loads of pixel shading, vertex shading, and other bus intensive operations where (the xbox's) optimized architecture comes into play. Gamecube can keep trying but it'll never compare to either, and PS2 is totally different and is very difficult to utilize.

Case in point: look at unreal tournament 2003 compared with unreal championship on XBOX. UT2003 has clearly better graphics on even an old system, because it isnt exploiting the xbox's little advantage to make everything glossy and refract things that shouldn't be refracted.

:P

I've had it for 3days

And I just cant put the game down. I might be 16yr old pimply faced kid, but I know that neon lights are not performance parts... In fact my cars are all very clean.

This game is fun because I get to stomp all over cars like this online.

how much does this "proper" pc cost??? I'm sure it's just a hair over the $179 cost of an xbox. Also, you're comparing a game that was optiomized for PC usage that was a sloppy port to xbox....NFS:U is a console game ported over to pc. I've had sound cards that cost more than console and a couple of games. That's a waste. I have a stereo that plays all of my digital music, I have all 4 128bit consoles for gaming and I have an HD tv....my pc is used for chatting on here and internet duties....thats what home pc's should be used for....IMO.

I have yet to see a car with neon that looks good. Not to say your car looks bad, but I think neon is to ricers as wire wheels are to getaway cars.

well my PC not including my 27" TV or 17" LCD or any other accessories cost about 700 bucks to put together. NFS:U is not a crappy console port... it has DX8 features and looks beautiful on my computer. Much better than PS2 and a bit better than XBOX, and it runs silky smooth for the most part (except for that damn volumetric smoke!)

Maybe your PC is old or in bad condition to make you consider it unsuitable for games... hmmph.

So you're saying that a slight bump in graphics is worth $530? WTH?? The one thing I've been able to figure out about pc gamers over the years is that pc hardware is like a pissing contest for these people.....your video card is 2 days old?? You suck! I get an extra 13polygons per second and it only costs me $125 a month on my CompUSA credit account, but I got a discount because I bought the thousand dollar audigy sound card...yeah I can play mp3's with a 1% better clarity and 2Mhz louder...what you got punk??!!!

It's a waste, Pc's are for work or email. If you want to game, buy a gaming machine, if you want to listen to music, get a stereo. If you want to watch dvd's buy a dvd player....pc's are nice that you can do a little bit of everything on one machine, but it costs so much to get a decent machine that it isn't worth it.

As for my computer....yes its old and slow. I have a duron 700Mhz overclocked to 920Mhz with a little over 600MB ram. I've got a 20G HDD, cd-rw, dvd-rom, audigy X-gamer 5.1 sound card.....when I built this system 2.5 years ago it cost me a little over $750. It does everything i need to and it does it smoothly. I download music....transfer it over to my xbox via cdrw and then from my xbox through optical audio cable to my Bose Lifestyle system for surround sound duties. I think I've got all the bases pretty well covered.

I think this game is pretty cool. I'm not one to criticize the gameplay, because I never expected it to compare to Gran Turismo. It's definately a different type of game, and the drag/drift modes are new. I love it. Honestly, the first time I jumped that draw bridge, I almost pissed my pants. I seriously had to put the controller down because I was laughing so hard.:D Straight out of 2F2F. I like the slower pace you win things at, but jesus, I don't want all that vinyl on my car. Just gimme a stage 3 turbo dammit!!
I've finished 45/111 races, and I still can't figure out why they have all that money available if you can't buy a bunch of different cars...I've got like $23,000 but nothing to spend it on....

style points unlock vinyl graphics it seems (COOL!!!!) and money really isn't an issue as you have enough for any upgrades from the tournament you raced to win them :p

anyways heres my car, with a since replaced hood scoop:

That reminds me...If style is so important in this game, then why haven't I unlocked any of the headlight/taillights upgrades?? I mean, those Euro tallights would looks sooo PIMP on my car, I just can't wait to get them!!(bling)

seriously....the vinyl looks ass in the game. I'd much rather get more body style options than stickers....thats just further adding to the stupid ricer stereotype.

BTW, we had the bridge jump in the game before 2F2F was in theaters. We had no idea 2F2F was gonna have it. :(

Overall I'm pleased with it. I read reviews for the game saying iot was possibly the greatest racing game out so far......that'its not, but it's fun. You should be proud of your work.

i was wondering about how to get the head and tail lights unlocked then once i dominated a level i kept going back thorugh it more for style than for placement and you get alot of stuff that way... i spent the first 30 or so levels just burning through them to move ahead no really unlocking anything but the major upgrades

all I've ever gotten from that is more vinyl graphics...maybe the graphics have to all be unlocked before it'll unlock ACTUAL parts.....personally I use the drift race on easy mode...for some reason I'm making like 5 times the points as the number 2 finisher, but when I go to medium or hard I can't compete....where's the learning curve??

you get the heads and tails right after each other.. around 60-65 or something. Vinyls are totally different (and worthless to me)

I am at 73/111 right now and its getting pretty tough, although Drift is still really easy even on hard mode :P
