Just bought an 03 MSP

I'm new to forums, but I just bought a Spicy Orange MSP less than a week ago. I'm wanting to do all the fluid changes in the world, as well as go through my bulbs, and other things that should be maintained. So my question is what fluids/bulbs/etc to use, and how much do I need? I've looked in the owner's manual about oil capacity, but it only lists the 2.0 non-turbo. Wouldn't our cars have a higher capacity because of oil feeds and returns? Anyways, thanks for any help or suggestions. Btw, how do I find out what model/production number my car is? Is it in the VIN?

Use 4 qts of oil. I use 10W30 full synthetic. I would also seafoam the engine, and change the tranny fluid. I used full synthetic with 1qt of lucas in the transmission. Definitely a good idea.

I thought that most people recommended the synchromesh for the transmission fluid? And what about the clutch and brakes? Should I just get the DOT3 stuff they sell at the Zone or are there any more suggestions? This is what I planned to do:
3 Qts. Synchromesh Transmission Fluid
4 Qts. Mobil 1 10W-30 w/ M1 filter
??? Dexron 3 for P/S (Does this work?)
??? Valvoline Full Synthetic Brake Fluid DOT 3 & 4 (for clutch and brakes?)
1 Gal. Prestone/Peak Antifreeze (should I use the DexCool?)

Anyways, that's what I planned on using, should I get oil/trans fluid/coolant additives? I'm hoping to get the best that I can at the Zone, CSK, or NAPA. Please make recommendations. Thanks for the help :)

I liked the penn or gm synchromesh better than the RP with stock tranny. Also don't do the seafoam in the crankcase just in the tank and through the intake via pcv or other.

Welcome to the forums!

I don't like the idea of it running through the turbo. I had a turbo go out...not to say it was related but thinking of pieces of sludge clogging up a feed line make me nervous or direct contact with seals and ceramic thrust bearings in my case.

How many miles did you have on the engine? Did you do it with fresh oil and filter? How long after would you say that your turbo kicked the bucket?

I let the engine idle with 3k old oil for about 15min and changed oil & filter. Turbo started whining faintly and went out a year later. Only did it a few times and right after the last time the noise started. Coincidence or not I'll never know and find out!

How may miles were on the engine and turbo?

Maybe 60k motor 48k turbo

Juan said he's never seen an IHI go bad. I had a small oil leak at the bottom return line flange and ultra grey'ed it in the dark right after the install and it eventually swelled and restricted the flow some. Lasted 5 years.

Royal Purple tranny fluid is great... i have it in mine too. it feels better than Redline MT90.

I only use Seafoam through my gas. I never put it into the oil....
