ok so I have been needing a more reliable car for ages and havent been able to afford a newer vehicle since Im a student, so I decided to sale my 88 samurai and my 95 240sx SR20 swap to but a 2008 MS3 gt with 43k miles for $7300. Great deal hunh, well theres a catch it has a salvaged title but the accident was no more than a fender bender luckily for me the airbaag deployed and now I have an 08 car with low miles for 7 grand

heres a few pics of the good and the bad

so as you can see I need a few parts but what I need to know is what all parts will I need for the bumper, does anyone have a link to a parts list breakdown photo like they have at the dealership on their cpu?
Im sure the bumper support wont have to be replaced but I needed to know about foam support plastic brackets and things like that

I dont think it will be too bad the hood can be fixed and it still latches without binding which tells me the radiator support isnt too bad off it does need to be pulled slightly on the bottom and tweaked to get the headlights to line up properly, the passenger side fender is fine aswell as both headlights

so far my parts list is:
grill/upper - $47
grill/lower - $47
bumper - $350
fog lights - $350
LH fender - $132
mud gaurds - $53
parts = $979

and labor to fix the radiator support, hood and paint - I estimate $500
its all that small mostly plastic stuff Im leaving out that I need to know what to get, and anybody that has any of this stuff for sale please PM me and in addition I need a drivers side seat belt module (the owner said these go bad when the car is in a wreck not sure what Im looking for) and drivers side airbag

and I just want to say that Im a big fan of these cars and ever since my parents first bought a 5door mazda3 in 2004 I have apreciated its handling especialy when it beat out the wrx on edmunds review (being a life long subie enthusiast this impressed the hell out of me) and considering my parents have never had a single issue with their 3 to this day tells me its reliable, I know Im going to love this car glad to be part of the community!

You should add $2k to that list for some new wheels and tires!
Not trying to be a dick but man.... WTF is up with those??

(I guess I do sound like a dick though.)

are parts from this website OEM?

if not could I get a link to one that is
thanks

no not being a dick at all. Im waaaaay ahead of you on that, those tires look like Im about to rally it in the chilean back country and the rims look like factory ford probe wheels

my best guess is these wheels/tires were used durring the winter and the car mustve been wrecked then so they stayed on there, and seeing as I live in NC and the winters usually arent that severe I have no need for them I was actually thinking about getting some RX8 wheels

like these

holy s*** those wheels/tires are ugly!! no worries though looks like you got a great deal I know once you get everything together you'll love her :)

Well, if you look at the pics of the tires, they clearly say Winterforce on them. So, you're guess of those being the original owners winter set-up is probably spot on.

^^^^No need to be a jerk.
Honestly man I think you'll have a hella amount of fun putting that beast together!!

ok so a bit more then what I thought but some pretty good news none the less
I was told $1200 for labor and paint, thats fixing the bent fender, hood, reinforcement and assemble/align it with the new parts and paint it

but I was told I must get a radiator support but parts cost will be about the same considering he can repair the fender

now if I can only source out the parts I need I do hope I could find them used

from this picture could someone identify what #19 is its called a "lower deflector" to me it looks like some type of front spoiler/lip
I have none of these items exept for the reinforcement and #12 since I believe its behind it but is there any of this I dont really need (example: the licence plate bracket)

Be glad you're not in Florida. A salvage title here just about guarantees you'd never get a tag. Good luck with the restoration.

Check onlinemazdaparts.com for oem. Car-part.com is another. Not sure, but airbag sensors also gotta be replaced too iirc. Not that bad. Just a lot missing.

can anyone help me with this Im not entirely sure what all I should buy for the bumper what all is necessary?

Didn't the body shop tell you what all they needed to fix it? If not, try asking them.

Rock Auto might also have a lot of what you're looking for. Worth a try.

the body shop guy will just tell me to get all of it but Im sure that alot of it is just BS pieces I dont need, the real concern is by ordering them online from this company it cost $12.95 per item shipping so if I get a $2 bolt its going to cost me $14.95

Im going to be making a fairly large order so Im going to see if they cant combine shipping cost for some of the smaller items

another question is about the downpipe. I see that there are two different designs, the the shorter more compact one and the longer type, I've only had the car for three days now and I dont know the exhaust layout but I was assuming the shorter one is strictly just the "downpipe" where the longer one is like the down pipe AND "testpipe" section together? My concern was about the cats, does the shorter one just remove the first cat and the longer one remove them both?
Because Im wanting to keep the second cat and Im trying to sort out my options

and is this exhaust something that came factory on all mazdaspeed3's or is it an option you could add at the dealership

The piece that you pointed out is a piece on the bottom of the bumper that protects it if you bottom out and scrap the bumper. It rivets on but if you don't want it, then I dont think its necessary.. Bumper has been saved by that protector piece a few times for me and I am at stock height.

You are correct about the downpipe short vs long.

Mazdaspeed cat-back is an aftermarket exhaust, it is not the same as the one that came on the car.

that bottom trim piece may also play a key role in aerodynamics at higher speeds, forcing air down under the splashguard, preventing it from creating a pressure pocket and bowing down in the front, potentially breaking it.

Yeah I believe I will go ahead and get that piece unless I find a lip kit I really like (< any suggestions?)

with the downpipe Im not sure what I want to do, I've never been one to think that just because its "HKS" or whatever their 304 stainless steel is better than a cheaper knock-off unless it has some sort of cat or resonator and in that case you do pay for a higher quality of sound. I think I may just get the full length ebay edition and cut/weld it to fit so I can keep my second cat and also my car actually came with that mazdaspeed exhaust on my car! Im pretty stoked about that

I think Ken at protege garage can get OEM parts....yes, no? That's one sweet deal man once you get her fixed up. You're lucky the headlights aren't damaged they are like 800 a pop. I also had a front end collision and had pretty much all that stuff replaced.
Want me to see if i can find my invoice of parts and scan it?

How can you not easily tell those are winter tires and likely winter wheels. The car was very likely wrecked with them on there and just stayed with the car. $2k is a bit much too. You can pick up a set of wheels and tires for $1,200 easy. Heck, OEM wheels can be had for a steal today.

Why don't you ask if anyone here paid $2k for their rims and tires. Cuz if even one did my $2k suggestion is more than legit. I asked WTF is up with the wheels. I didn't say they weren't winter wheels or ask if they were. There must be a story behind them and being that he lives in NC and it's the middle of summer, I asked. Relax.
