Just bought a 2002 Protege 5...What performance mods are available/recomended?

i drive like a hour at least to and from work, i want to drive something fun. Thats why i got a p5, it was in my price range, had a roof rack, and was cute and unique.

zoom-zoom :)

i agree with you, but the topic is about modding your car, performance parts ect...

How do you **** up a swap? Your friend is a moron.

BTW....with the new K-series honda motors swapping into older civics.....alot of people are getting into the 12's with cams, bolt ons....etc....no boost....

Oh....and i know what a cyclone is...aren't they notorious for tranny problems? Why didn't you just buy a GN?

Syclones are not notorious for tranny probs... thats a WRX hehe. Syclones and typhoons only run into tranny probs when you start upgrading to a much larger turbo. if youre launching with 8-10psi on like T-60 turbo putting that much torque through the drivetrain something is going to break. But for the most part, a stock truck with a stock trans will last. i have 81k on my truck, with original everything, tranny still shifts hard, the engine runs strong, and i could pull 1.70 60fts and low 13second passes all day. tuning, and alky injection on a stock truck will get you into the 12s no problem.

I didn't buy a GN cause i like the rarity of the syclone (less than 3000 ever built), i like going 0-60 in 4.6seconds rain or shine, i like having a truck not a sedan, and i love the fact that after 15 years it still holds the 0-60 and 1/4mi record for production trucks.

secondly im not trying to start a fight with anyone here... just asking a valid question and making a few points... maybe with a little more conviction than necessary but ehh oh well.

Aside from my inability to spell the name of an insignificant truck correctly, I'd like to know how a honda swap became unreliable....almost all of them use 90% oem parts....

couldn't tell ya... but i know he didn't just toss in some "type R" motor... he put some other Japanese motor in there... it was pretty quick afterwards, but really not something you could drive comfortably everyday to work or to the store.

i have to admit that our 2.0 motor relatively does not have enough headroom in terms of performance gains. but if you like modding, there is no one stopping you.
