its makes me sick when i go to the track and see how much money these kids piss away on these gay ass imports with motor swaps and turbos and god knows what only to run 15's and 16's and the occaisional mid 14, all along your car runs harsh and is no long a dependable daily driver and sounds like a ******* lawn mower!

if you want to go fast get a car with a V8. you could get a used camaro SS with low miles and put a supercharger on it and run low 12s, for less money that buying an import and faggin it out with wings and turbos and coffee can exhausts.

or if you got 35k+ laying around go get an STi or an EVO 8.

i have a GMC Syclone (do a search if you don't know what it is) i bought it 5 years ago for 12k with 39k miles. stock the truck runs low 13s, and was a dependable daily driver. not its a garage queen, and i beat the hell outta the mazda everyday and enjoy the good gas mileage.

im not trying to sound like that much of a prick, im just trying to open peoples eyes and hope they realize what a gay scam this whole import craze is.

IF ANYONE DISAGREES... PLEASE FLAME ME AND HELP ME UNDERSTAND HOW ITS LOGICAL TO SPEND MORE MONEY MODDING AN IMPORT INSTEAD OF BUYING A FAST CAR TO BEGIN WITH.

rant off.

i
There are many swapped Civics that will run low 14's. I personally have a friend with a 6th gen civic hatch that makes 440whp and 360 trq. I've love to see a Heads/cam LS1 Camaro race it.

The reality is. if you buy a faster car, what will you race? Cars faster than yours! That's how this works. If i had a nice Trans am, id be ******* with Z06's, porshes and SVT cobras all day and still need to mod my car. There is no such thing as the fastest car ever. It never stops.

In terms of what mods to do. i kinda agree with the 666 guy. I'd just do a short shifter, intake and stickto suspension. Suspension is way more gradifying that trying to make power and is way cheaper. Find a nice sway bar, coilovers and tires and smile.

why do ppl with muscle cars love to bash imports, I think its because they get offended when an import actually beats them being that they are mostly just lil 4 bangers. Either way, I do like muscle cars also, which is why I have a monte carlo, but at the same time I love the mazda, its two different driving experiences. Especially the part that my wife doesn't slide all the way over to my lap when making a sharp right turn. Anyway, with the money you don't use on modding because its already "fast" you have to spend in gas, so either way there is no win win.

i couldn't disagree more...oh well thats what makes the forum interesting i guess??

haha no don't be afraid, even though sometimes you will get a jerk response, but dont worry about that, its all in good fun, believe me, if you stick around long enough, you will also develop this sarcasm that is pertrayed here constantly.....we are one big happy family.

I guess I just didn't do it right. i/h/e was really dissapointing. However, anything suspension related i did, i was thrilled.

exactly...best thing said on this forum yet, from this subject, to the freaking christmas stuff. No need to down other ppl, everybody has there own taste and ideas.

Welcome to the forums. In my opinion the first thing to change are the tires, the car will handle much better and launch much better with better tires. I run pirelli nero m+s couldn't be happier.

Tires are the best part you can buy. Better acceleration, grip, braking.

I loved my Yokohama ES100's.

before i even get started... does only having 4 posts mean i have no credibility?

second... my point wasn't to tell everyone to go out and buy a muscle car and call it a day... it was just an example. what i meant is that i dont understand the point of modding a 130hp import, when you can buy a car with way more horsepower to mod and go even faster. Sure you can do a motor swap on a civic and run low 14s. my friends room mate did a motor swap on a crx and ran 13.8, but he couldnt drive anywhere over 30miles without having problems with the car... which brings me to my point of, why not just buy a car that already does 13.8 stock, and go from there. IMO it's easier to mod a V8 and get good results without sacrificing dependability. Most V8's from GM come restricted to hell and back, and just removing the restrictions and dialing in a few things can lead to big performance gains without really doing anything.

For me the ultimate goal is to go as fast as possible for the least amount of money and work. and! be able to duplicate that performance at all times, not just at the track.

Apparently this is not the objective with the import crowd? I'm just trying to understand the philosophy behind it all. Because i'm greatly confused.

I hate a the cocky pony car owners that think they are the quickest car out there. I love having sleepers that can pull on "fast" cars.
im not sure if youre refering to me or not, but just in case... i'd never own a rustang, and i own a sleeper thats not a muscle car. the look on peoples faces when they get beat by an "S-10" is priceless. I have a video of me owning a 2002 911 turbo at the track.

ummm 666 or whatever you name is - be happy man!
what the hell happened to make you such an angry little kid?
im not angry, nor a little kid.

i'm just sick of all these kids in my city whos parents buy them a POS, and they think cause they throw on an ebay body kit, a wing, and a lawn mower exhaust that they got the fastest thing in town. Then if you want to go drag race, you need to waste an entire day to get 4 runs in cause theres 5,000 imports there. 10 of which might be fast.

and can someone please explain loud exhaust to me? i mean seriously, do people really think that it sounds good? a V8 with headers and open pipes, that sounds good. a 4 banger revving out to 90000 rpms with a coffee can for an exhaust pipe just does not sound good.

so until someone can explain this, im putting it in the same catagory with the mexicans that put a $2000 set of wheels on a $500 car, then put 6" adapters behind the wheels so they stick out, and put gold trim all over the car. sweet jesus i wish someone would tell those people how dumb that looks.

ok, back to flaming me.

lol agree with the mexican thing. Its hard to see a decent car turned to s***. And with the exhaust its kids who try to act cool and can't afford a real exhaust and buy an ebay muffler and think its cool. Like the glow lights (now those are nasty and ricey). But why can't you just have fun and mod the car the way you want. If he wants to do things like most ppl on this site then why not.

let's get this thread back on track as to the original post.

A New forum member to the Mazda community wants to know what performance options are available to him. This is not a domestic/import car online battle. If you want to start one, go to the Off Topic section, and start a new thread there.

"before i even get started... does only having 4 posts mean i have no credibility?"
actually...NO...not regarding the simple question that was asked...start a new thread on the subj of why people would mod a 130hp import and we can discuss it there...:)

How do you **** up a swap? Your friend is a moron.

BTW....with the new K-series honda motors swapping into older civics.....alot of people are getting into the 12's with cams, bolt ons....etc....no boost....

Oh....and i know what a cyclone is...aren't they notorious for tranny problems? Why didn't you just buy a GN?

The argument presented here against modding a 130 hp car has no merit. You're basing it solely on results in street racing... what if we don't do that? I'd say it's worth modding because it's 130 horsepower, and needs a bit more power to scoot around between corners. For most of us, the protege is our primary car and we don't have another vehicle to make it feel anemic in comparison, so why be such a dick about it?

The American standard for automotive worthiness post WorldWar II is the 1/4 mile. YEEEE HAWWW!!!! If it can't go fast in a straight line it's crap! Where are the 3.73's or 4.10's at? See Ya' at the hoedown! YIP YIP!! I need some hooker longtubes!

i agree...i mod my car because i wianted some more get up and go...i don't race it...i drive it to work every day, and enjoy it!!

i drive like a hour at least to and from work, i want to drive something fun. Thats why i got a p5, it was in my price range, had a roof rack, and was cute and unique.

zoom-zoom :)
