there are many mods available just look around.

When you find something you have a question about I know someone here will have done it and will be glad to help you out.

it always comes down to how much $$$$ you want to spend!

if you want to stick N/A, Intake, Header, Exhaust, UDP, Flywheel...

don't expect too much power out of these cars, unless you are willing to dump $10+k for a built engine + turbo

welcome to the forums! be sure to check out my site and let me know if you need or want anything!

Captain KRM - I assume you know your store is currently borked? Your configuration file isn't correct and cookies aren't sticking - try adding stuff to the cart to see what I mean.

Edit:
Following this link, it's fubarred:

Following the link in your sig it's ok. Hmmm - have you changed domain names recently?

Welcome to the site.

I woudl reccomend just starting to poke around the forums. There are many possibilities as to what you can do to your car, so listing them all is nearly impossible. Just read around and see what captures your intrest.

I would reccomend futzing with the suspension, though. A drop, new struts, and a new rear swaybar will give you an entirely different car.

yes i reassigned ProtegeGarage.com to get rid of the register.com ad that was perma-tagged to it :(

Welcome! Here is info I try to pass onto all the newbies who join up.

Right after I got my P5, I got the intake. You can get a short ram intake (SRI), which is what I have. Others have cold air intakes (CAI) They are about the same on ebay, but you may also opt for name brand. I have the ebay...

The next thing I did was get rid of those god forsaken Dunflop piece of s*** stock tires. I hydroplaned within the first week or so I owned the P5. I ended up with the Yokohama AVS ES 100's. 205-50-16's on the stock rims. After 23000 miles, they were through, so I got aftermarket wheels, and Kumho Ecsta 711 205-40-17s. There are a bazillion threads about tires. These I highly recommend for rainy climates. (Bottom line, get out of the stock tires before you have a problem!)

I just got (after 2.5 years of owning my car) a Racing Beat exhaust. I got an insanely good deal on it. It is on the higher end of the pricing range, but you can score one used at a good rate if you are on the forum within the .245 seconds someone posts it for sale used. They run in the high $400 range new. There is a Mazda Sport (Mazdaspeed) exhaust which is also popular, but people have complained of droning, or an annoying sound at freeway speeds. The Racing Beat does not do that. But there are a bazillion threads about the exhaust subject too, look them up.

Then there is the tinting of windows, a stereo, springs/shocks/body kit, carbon fiber everything, etc you will see around here for sale.

Short shifter is next on my list. Kartboy makes a great one, I have seen it in person. The shifter bushings are a must. Get them no matter what. Huge difference in shifting!

I found by moving to synthetic engine and transmission fluids, I get better mileage, and it shifts smoother too. So easy to do, it is worth it.

One more thing you should consider when you mod is a header. OBX and Ractive are the most common. I just installed the Ractive, and love the HP gains. Be sure to look up the Spark Plug non-fouler trick for the 2nd o2 sensor. It prevents the CEL from coming on.

Well, good luck, and check out the for sale section, and work with the Authorized Venders and sellers! Oh, search for threads about a question you might have. Most likely, it has been covered.

don't waste your time...

get an intake and a shifter and call it a day. in my opinion headers and turbo etc. is a waste of ******* money! these cars have 130hp just accept it! wasting time and money trying to turn chicken s*** into chicken salad is just not worth it cause you'll never get your money back when you sell it. even if you do waste money on a turbo etc.. is your car really gonna be that fast to justify the money? no. i know id be pissed if i dumped even a few grand into my car and i was still getting killed by camaros and mustangs. which you will.

if you want a fast car, buy a fast car!

its makes me sick when i go to the track and see how much money these kids piss away on these gay ass imports with motor swaps and turbos and god knows what only to run 15's and 16's and the occaisional mid 14, all along your car runs harsh and is no long a dependable daily driver and sounds like a ******* lawn mower!

if you want to go fast get a car with a V8. you could get a used camaro SS with low miles and put a supercharger on it and run low 12s, for less money that buying an import and faggin it out with wings and turbos and coffee can exhausts.

or if you got 35k+ laying around go get an STi or an EVO 8.

i have a GMC Syclone (do a search if you don't know what it is) i bought it 5 years ago for 12k with 39k miles. stock the truck runs low 13s, and was a dependable daily driver. not its a garage queen, and i beat the hell outta the mazda everyday and enjoy the good gas mileage.

im not trying to sound like that much of a prick, im just trying to open peoples eyes and hope they realize what a gay scam this whole import craze is.

IF ANYONE DISAGREES... PLEASE FLAME ME AND HELP ME UNDERSTAND HOW ITS LOGICAL TO SPEND MORE MONEY MODDING AN IMPORT INSTEAD OF BUYING A FAST CAR TO BEGIN WITH.

rant off.

I like modding my little P5. I still get 30+ mpg, and i am not stuck with an American car that will be junk (like my 2000 GMC Sonoma was) after 50K miles.

We are not trying to beat v8s, just trying to give it a little more pickup. A header will give you a lot more pickup than an intake, so mod away, do what you want. That is what ths forum is for. Mazdas, and the stuff we can do to them. This is not a muscle car forum.

Well, all depends on what you are looking for- handling, power, ?

I've done a few mods and am impressed with the results. Though it was a good bit of money.
Performance:
OBX header
VTCS removal
AWR motor mounts
Injen intake
HKS Hiper Muffler
Handling:
Racing beat /MP3 springs
AWR rear swaybar 21.5mm
AWR adjustable endlinks
Tokico Illumina struts

As for the buy a fast car...F that. it's more fun to build a car than to just get a quick car from the start. I hate a the cocky pony car owners that think they are the quickest car out there. I love having sleepers that can pull on "fast" cars. My old 87 crown vic was built using hand me down mustang parts and ended up being able to beat a bunch of mustangs and a bunch of other "fast" cars.

That being said, a protege isn't the best car to start with to build an insane street machine. it's a fun daily driver though.

you need to try a little harder. (and welcome to the forums by the way)

one day we will all die- it's what you do with your time here that counts, not what you have when you leave.
spend time modding your car if that's what you like, you'll be a happier person for it.

ummm 666 or whatever you name is - be happy man!
what the hell happened to make you such an angry little kid? (nervous)
