Juddering

Hello, first post here.

Bought a 2016 CX-5 a few months ago and it has recently started juddering fairly heavily at around 2k revs. It happens every time we drive it and it starts after around a mile or so.

Has anyone here experienced anything similar or have any idea what is likely causing it? Just thought I'd ask here before taking it to a garage, any help would be really appreciated, thanks.

I had the same issue, where the engine ran perfectly fine until it warmed up, then, began stuttering at low rpm's. It turned out to be defective spark plugs. I replaced them myself over a year ago and have not had the problem return since.

I would start by checking the spark plugs yourself, check to see if they are old and replace if needed. It is very easy to do. All you need is a ratchet wrench with extension, a spark plug socket, and an 8mm socket.

It could also be ignition coil(s) or fuel injectors, but less likely.

If doing spark plugs yourself just remember the usual guidelines.

1) reliable source for correct plugs to avoid counterfeits. See other threads on this forum.

2) plug threads do not get coated with anti-seize.

3) Observe proper torque when tightening plug. Stripping threads in soft aluminum head would be a nightmare.

4) Good time to inspect for any oil leakage around the plugs. My 2014 at 71K miles had a small amount around #1 plug so I changed the valve cover gasket before installing new plugs.

Other things to check if not have done so after recently acquiring your CX-5 to avoid problems:

1} condition of serpentine and water pump belts
2) any records of transmission ever being serviced
3) condition of engine air filter
4) cooling system been serviced

The mileage of your 2016 wasn't posted and many people acquire a used vehicle and check nothing. Don't know your situation. Hopefully yours has been maintained well.

Good list.

Definitely check your serpentine belt. They make sounds when the engine is cold. If it cracks, you'll overheat almost right away

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah that sounds exactly like what's been happening with ours. Will check the spark plugs as soon as I get a chance, hopefully it is something as simple as that.

Thank you

Thank you will take all of this into account when checking/replacing the plugs and will have a look at those other parts as well.

Apologies, it's done 88k and has had regular services. Athough I'm not convinced on the quality of those services tbh so I will definitely be taking it to a the garage we use for them to look over it asap
