JIC Magic and Turbo?

Reviving an old thread here.

Thanks to Linux for pointing me here. Here's the thing. I'm looking to replace my JIC system with a custom 3" cat-back ending with a HKS Carbon-Ti. Since I have heard how raw most 3" systems sound without a resonator, I'm looking to do what other members have done and add a Magnaflow resonator (round body tube muffler). Problem being everyone in this thread has added the 4" body (part #14416). That obviously won't work for me since it's a 2.5" in/out.

So, I'm thinking of using the 6" body (part #14619). Same length as the 4" model. But, 2" wider. My question is to those of you who have done this swap. Will I have enough room in the "tunnel" to fit the 6" design? Or do I need to start looking for another option?

That's a damn good question! (eekdance)
Yeah, I realized after you sent me the link that I might be in for trouble trying to do this with a 3" but man, if I can that is gonna be high flow compared to what I'm running right now.

Isn't the JIC 505 SUS Cat-Back only 60mm? I wasn't even aware that they made that exhaust for a protege. see link)

Actually, I believe the JIC system made for the Protege is the JIC Spartan DE or something like that. But yes, it is only 60mm whcih equals about 2.4 inches. So the closest match available from Magnaflow is the 2.5" resonator.

Correct. For some reason I thought I had the SUS, until I found out that the SUS exhausts from JIC are all angled.

Just found this thread and thought i would throw in my .02.

I cut out the resonator on my catback. Welded in straight pipe in its place, and it actually sounds really really nice. Agressive, but not droany on the highway, etc. Everyone was telling me how badass the car sounded on the dyno today. The stock resonator really is way too small for a FI application.
