OK, guys & gals, you can now formally and fully welcome me into this club: I bought my new Mazda 5 yesterday and drove it home this afternoon! All in all, this is just the type of vehicle that I have been looking for (2-3 years), and this 5 is just the one I wanted! After parking it in my garage (surrounded by all the typical garage stuff as well as my glass art work space), looking at how it offers so much room around it that no other minivan would have provided, I admit that I quite literally did a laughing happy dance around the car, sending up thanks and gratitude for having such a good choice materialize! I think Im going to enjoy this car for a quite a long time.

The details: the 5 I decided on is a 2006 Cardinal Red Touring Automatic. Along with the carpets I got the all-weather floor mats, bumper guard, cargo cover, cargo net, and wheel locks.

Price paid Not at good as some here have struck, but I am totally OK with the amount I spent and what Ive got for it.
Purchase price with the above accessories: $19,564
Sales tax: $1,422
Doc Prep Fee: $45
License & Tire Fees: $197.
Total: $21,228
I financed through MAC, but the plan of 36 mons at 1.9% was not eligible for the $1000 incentive.

I was home only a few minutes before taking advantage of the afternoon light to head just up the road and shoot the first photos. Ill try to share some of those next. Boy, feeling how the car handles just on my local hill, I can't wait to see how it does up the Hwy 1 Big Sur coastline! Yippee High on My 5!

Cheers!

WELCOME!!! You got the same package and extras out the door that I got and I'm paying just under what you got it for...The final price on our contract was $20,510 (also financed through MAC) :D

I love the Cardinal Red!!! It looks amazing on the hillside you got there :D

HAPPY DRIVING!!!

How does the 5 perform? out of curiosity? Is it just a small mini van or does it do anything special?

It makes my wife smile everytime she gets in it. I set a $35K budget for her to get a new car... her first new car ever. She picked the 5.

Very cool. If I were a woman and my husband set a $35k budget for me I would have got a g35 sedan but hey, I'm glad she likes it :-D

it handles great. It could use a few more horses but all in all im happy with its performance. It handles very much like the 3 but with a tad bit of body roll. Oh and you're sitting in a upright position

Congrats!
Did you take those pics up over by the Dam off of the 605 FWY?
looks nice :P

Oh and i took mine up the 1/101 to Solvang from Buena Park and it was a fun ride.

It jumps through hoops if you ask nicely :)

Seriously though, nah. Probably very similar to the 3 except a pinch more slugish and body roll. It's still a zippy, point-and-shoot vehicle though. It's a great mesh of fun and practicality.

I will say though, with $35k I'd be in a 3-Series Beemer or STI, but that's just me :D

Lol, i priced a 328 a few days ago on BMW.com and it started @ 32k and when i was done adding some features it shot up to 45k. I'd so rather drive a mazda with all the bells and (nav) whistles than a stock 3series, C Class, G35, or IS.
They're all lovely cars though arent they :P

Great Choice

My wife and I bought a Cardinal Red Touring in July for the very same reasons you bought yours. Love the color love the car. Enjoy the ride!

Re the 605: Nope. I didn't dawdle in my new 5 down in SoCal (I was born & raised in LA area and got out of there decades ago, as soon as I hit college age!). I kinda thought the background in the one pic with the open slider would be a giveaway (assuming the photos are enlarging OK). For those of you familiar with the Calif coast, this shot should tell you where my beautiful new 5 now calls home!

And with the comments here about the Cardinal Red color, I thought I'd also post these identical shots, taken moments apart with a cloud passing across the sun....

Hey, DrB, get your silver sweetie a bit farther north than Solvang next time...even more fun, lol!!

Cheers to all -- and thanks for the welcoming replies!
