JaLMP5 Build/Progress Thread

I got a Gemini, it's in almost perfect condition with the exception of a scratch on the clear right on the front. I'll be refinishing it and painting a portion of it in flat black (subtle of course).

have the hood recleared with some high temp uv resistant clear. The older gemini hoods will haze up and on my old xc hood the clear wasn't high temp so when it was super hot out i would literally have clear melting and dripping through the vent and land on my hotpipe. My new rc hood has heat reflective tape all along the bottom side to try and prevent this from happening.

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely make sure to do that. I've heard about the Gemini hoods having problems with there Gel and Clear coats so I already assumed I would need to do some work on it to make it exactly what I want.

I have the XC ZX2 style hood. It's been recleared using blue metaflake and pearl clear

Yeah, I know you picked up the hood from Damien. He lives about 2 hours north of me and I was thinking about running up there and picking it up when he had it for sale. But I wanted to wait and see if I could pick up an RC and fortunately I did. Plus the ZX2 matches your midnight blue perfectly so I'm glad you got it.

Yeah, my favorite piece by far. I had no clue it was blue when I bought it, it matches unbelievably well

old picture of it. This angle shows the blue

I stared at his for sale picture for the longest time until I realized it had some blue flake in it. That's another reason I didn't want to get it because I would have hated to take that pearl and blue off to match my color scheme.

Oh absolutely. I can see some flaws XC made. The hood isn't as wide as the stock hood. Some of the weave isn't tight, it's one single layer of weave. Some weird spots around the edges

yea my xc hood has a few clear chips and imperfections but overall its in good shape

i love ever flaw in all the CF pieces i own, most its only me who sees them and makes you realize its not mass produced products.. someone hand laid those fabrics.

Jal the parts look great and cant wait for installed pics..

I can't wait to install them!!! Its been too long since I've got to work on it, plus I'll be pulling the current motor sometime this winter to begin the forge. Its been too much of a pain in the ass to find an engine for less than a grand or driving an excess of three to four hours.

Well put. My small flaws are only visible by me. The hood is in great condition and Damian took great care of it. Like I said, it's my favorite piece

Well I got some bad news today. I've been expecting my hood for a couple of days now and so I called greyhound and they said they lost my NEW (to me) Reverse Cowl Hood :'(. So now I have to wait until they can find it or I have to file a claim, which won't make up for missing a very rare hood. But in good news I ordered some books in Amazon to help me out.

^These should help me out since I'll be pulling my engine in the next couple of weeks and turning this build up a notch.

It's been a little while since my last update. I had a lot of things happen in the last month so wasn't able to do much but I did pick something up the other day.

I then proceeded to get everything ready to pull the motor and my wrench slipped, hit the ac line that connects to the AC pump and shot freon all over my engine bay and face so that was the end of work for me today.

Yeah, it wasn't a fun experience. I'll get back in there sometime this week. I want the motor pulled here in the next 2 weeks so I can start stripping the engine bay and get the head and block to the machine shop. Sucks not having any car enthusiasts within an hour from you to help.
