HEY everyone. I'm gonna paint my calipers next weekend and I was wondering, since this is my first time jacking up the car on all fours.... Where do I place the axle stand??? I have 4 of them, but only one jack (the one in the trunk) lol. WHERE do I place the stands??? pics would help please, with an arrow or something indicating thanks in advance ;)

go out to the autoparts store and get yourself a nice pump jack with a long handle. it will be so much easier to raise the car with it. its only about $15-20 for the jack.

now if you want us to tell you where your jacking points are on your car, you need to tell us what car you drive. i don't know why people are so scared of putting that info in their signature or avatar.

oh allright, stupid me then. i never look at what section the thread is in, what does it matter. i just scroll through the list of new/updated threads and click on the ones i like.

you can jack the entire front at once. get underneath the front and foot or so from the front, closer to the drivers side there is going to be a metal crossmember with a little bump sticking out. you fit the jack onto that bump and pump away. the back, you have to do each side individually.

Put the jack stands at the very front and back of the pinch welds. They've been re enforced there, and that's where they're strongest

The rear jacks well at the center of the rear crossmember. A little 'box' hangs lower (no pix, sorry!) and fits the 'cup' of the jack well.

Defl'y use the jackstands!

Buy the good jack - you will use it no less than 20 more times if you had it! I have (no-joke) used my cheap floor jack no less than 200 times (my car/friends car/ etc.)

since I have had a history of tweaking the welds on the 'Suggetsed Jack' location I went for the cross member steel supports.
Here are the pictures from when I did mine. Not really the best pictures for showing exact location but you'll see what everybody is talking about once you lay down and look under hte car. Getting ready to re-paint mine this Spring. Highly suggest G2. Mine are still red as the day I painted them. Just a few knicks from mounting/dismounting wheels and lost a little bit of the lusteur...

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I figured there was no point in creating a new thread.

Does anyone have a clear pic on where to place the front and rear jack stands?

No one really thinks to take pics of that sorta thing, next time I have the car up on hoists I'll snap some :) they did explain it well tho...

I'd just jack up the car near the front like you would to change your tire/wheel and have a look underneath, it's not hard to see where they are talking about:)

another good place to place your jackstands is right next to your towhooks in the front. it's really sturdy and secure there.

You'll be ok with just about any jack stand out there, the P5 only weights 2700-2900lbs and you'll only be holding half the weight or less on the jack stands.

If you don't already have a jack and stands I would recommend
These for jackstands:

And this for a Jack:

That jack is expensive but by far the best jack I have ever used, I love it.

Awesome - thanks. I actually work for a company that wholesales stands and jacks and a zillion other auto/air/power tools along but I'm always forgetting to check when I'm at work. Go figure... lol

exactly. Even if you find a set of 1 ton jackstands (why would you make those?!) you'd have a max rating of 8000lbs w/ 4 stands.

All you need to know is 1 @ the front and 1 @ the rear of each pinch weld. It'll work, and hold forever. The pinch welds (esp @ the very front & rear where the jack points are) are sturdy as hell.

So, you CAN re-paint already painted calipers? Mine were painted red when I bought the car, and it just really doesn't suit me. I would like to go to silver or black. Something a little less flashy. I'm guessing with a re-paint it's all in the prep work.

why not? Start w/ course sand paper, then some finer stuff to prep the surface, clean thoroughly, hit it w/ some self etching primer and paint 'em again

What exactly are pinch welds?

Can I put jack stands underneath the "bars" or "sills" that run along each of the sides? Is that what you mean?
