So i got an ipod classic 80g for xmas... never had one before and this is my first endeavor with itunes... i really really don't like i had been using windows media player to store and rip all my music and had no issues... when i transfered all my crap to itunes it compressed it again... so i had to uninstall it all and then figure out how to not compress the music as i prefer a low compression rate.

anyways i figured that out but i can't seem to figure out why on albums that have multiple artists it seperates the album to each artist even though they all come from the same album no matter how i sort it i can't get it to put these certain albums together... can anyone help with this? i am pretty much bitching about itunes here as from what i have seen so far i am not impressed...

should i just send my ipod to one of those companies and have them open it up for me so i don't have to use itunes? isn't that an option. are there any good ipod forums to help with these things? i looked at a coupled but most weren't active or only had a bunch of people asking questions and no one answering them.

thanks again

Well, are you talking about the album artist Ft. another artist? if thats the case highlight all the songs from that album, right click and click on info and just put in the artists name and it will make all them the same

theres a button you click to put them all in one iirc

on the top where next to the search there are 3 buttons you can press one with just 4 lines, one with 2 boxes and 4 lines and one with 4 vertical lines around a box, click the first one with only lines and it'll put the artists together assuming i figured out your problem right

mmm not sure if i explained myself right... for instance the gorillaz album there are tracks with more then one artist on it. and for some reason when i sort by album it puts those tracks serperatly like they are there own album... i have tried using the "sort by" tools and either i don't understand them correctly or they have no affect on the issue i am having. i want to sort them by album not in a reg list though that shouldn't be a big deal....?? thats how i have my library organized in windows media player and there were no issues with multiple artists in the same album.

regardless of who is on the song with the gorillaz you need to make it all just one artist I.E. gorillaz or else it creates more nonsense like you mentioned..

If it says "gorillaz feat. money mike" or something, you need to make it just "gorillaz" that "feat" totally ***** up the rotation and Itunes is weird like that

first attachment is what i think your itunes is like right now circled is the button that separates each artist

second attachment is how mine is, if you dont already have that button clicked then select it.

ok so i have to go into the info for that particular song and change each one to the artist of the album... thats ****** up...esp for a sound track cause i have a couple of those as well... itunes is pretty ****** gay

de31 your right i am sorting it using that middle button but when i have over 100 albums i want to see the albums like that sorting function shows it instead of a big list... its just the way i like my stuff organized (i am used to it from media player i guess)

hmmm.... well for me its still sorted in albums just no pictures on the side that whole list i have shown is one album, just doubled after i reformatted my computer and used my backup cds, which would explain the long list. if that doesnt help then go with TreFlips idea

I have a 30 and love it.

That doesnt really help lol..In that case i love my 80G video..Now the touch came out...Apple is determined to get my money, i swear...They do it on purpose, just when i become content they gotta come out with some new s*** to make my s*** feel old, which it isnt even old, tricky bill gates...

what does Bill Gates have to do with Apple and Itunes?

If you are still looking for how to group albums together by album and not artist in preferences check "Group compilations while browsing". Most of my music is dj mixes so every track has a different 'artist' but I just rename it all to whoever put the tracks together.

thanks kosh i didn't even see that on that screen... will have to double check though your menu feel looks a lot different then mine are you on a mac? or have a different version of itunes?

It is on my (lol)mac at work version 7.5.

I would never install itoons on my pc at home.

so is that pretty much my prob running itunes on a pc?? isn't there a way to go open the drive so i can just use it like an external hard drive but still have the proprietary ipod software on it? maybe thats the route i should look into....?

derek you are such a cry baby. its your fault for using a bad windows media players instead of itunes 20 years ago. i know stuff gets to maine slower than the rest of us but still....

I think the same check box is in the windows version but I haven't used it in a few versions.

You should be able to see it as a removable HDD in explorer. All of the folders with mp3's are hidden. Go in folder options and check 'view hidden files and folders' and you can see them. I haven't used an ipood since gen 2 was out so maybe it is different now.

There used to be some versions that weren't too bad, oldapps.com has the older distributions. You may want to look into downgrading your install to when it worked better.
