If you're familiar with Docusign then you know what it is and what it's about.

If you don't, you don't need to worry because you're not using the service. Docusign is an electronic method of legally signing documents online.

I received a Docusign notice yesterday via email. I've received these before around this time of the year from my financial advisor, so my guard wasn't put up immediately by this.

What did get my guard up was the fact that my advisor and I always have a conversation before he sends these to me. Plus, the way the email was worded. It appeared, from the wording, that I had already signed a document and said document was available for review.

No way was I going to click on the link provided, BUT there was an alternative method listed in the email to get at the document in question.

Manually go to docusign.com and enter the 16-digit code provided to access the document. No risk in this and I did it. The code was bogus, and I got an error from the website.

After this I inspected the email closer and found that the links were all suspicious and did NOT point to any sites having to do with Docusign.

This was very well done and I just wanted to warn y'all just in case.

Recently I received phone calls from “United Health Care” and “Costco Customer Service”. Needless to say both were bogus and the callers were trying to dig out more personal information from me. I definitely wouldn’t tell them anything more than they’d already know, but several things make me wonder how they did that.

Firstly my iPhone showed “United Health Care” Caller ID/Name when called and since my Plan G uses them, it didn’t raise me any warning signs at first. After the initial conversion I realized the phone call seemed fishy although he did provide my legit email and some other personal information. I hanged up the phone but I saw the “United Health Care” Caller Name still was in my iPhone phone call history. After a couple of days the “United Health Care” Caller Name was disappeared left only the phone number. I suddenly recalled that the “United Health Care” Caller Name shouldn’t be displayed but only the phone number unless I’d saved that phone number with a name in my Contacts! How did those scams can make my iPhone displaying the Caller Name instead of a phone number, and the Caller Name disappeared after a couple of days in my history, is a mystery to me.

The call from 800 Costco Customer Service was easy to figure out it was a scam. It did escape my T-Mobile scam warning and didn’t display “Scam Likely” and that’s why I picked it up. Just not sure what did the caller really want as I wouldn’t give him any information of mine.

Many people like me nowadays...
Never pick up phone calls from numbers not in contact lists.
(whatever the ID says)

I told my kids. If you should have a need to call from a strange number, call twice.
I will pick it up the second time.
Scammers rarely call you twice.
