Issues At Dragstrip

OK so last night I went down to the drag strip to run my car and see what numbers I could pull down with the mods I have (CPE 3inch Down-pipe, Custom 3inch Exhaust, ********** Motor Mount, Fujita CAI).

On both of my runs the car was sputtering and backfiring a little and would blow out smoke when that would happen which caused me to loose power. I could not get anything better then a 15.1..........
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS UP? (pissed)

There was a stock MS6 running freaking 14.1's

Any Ideas?

Freakin SUX!!

Yep, plenty.

First, I want to ask you how were you doing the whole process? what rpms did you launched, at what time, what rpms did you shifted, etc.

This is what I do. Once you are aligned, kick the revs between 4.8k-5.5k and hold the clutch right before the engagement point. Slip it slowly once the second sequential yellow light lights down. For the time you engage, the light has turned green. Shift at 6.1k-6.2k from 1st-2nd, 5.8k from 2nd-3rd, 5.7k-5.8k from 3rd and up. Now, it is up to you to let it ride 4th or shift to 5th. People get different results for each. See what works best for you. Also, this might sound stupid, but make sure you have your traction control off and your a/c off completly (meaning it has to be in inside circulation mode, cuz sometimes its off but its letting the air from outside circulate in).

Second, you might be getting fuel cut. MS6Mike was getting fuel cut with just his CPE DP...now, since you got the whole TBE, then you should get less, if some. He bought an ATP fuel cut defenser and it has reduced the fuel cut to an acceptable degree, yet, it hasnt eliminated it.

Also, scan your time slip so we can pin point the problem. Very important!

Good luck next time!

My reaction times weren't great at all. I was trying to launch at about 4k and I was shifting around 6k in all gears. I'm no genius in launching an AWD car but I figured it would have done better then 15.

I will scan them in later tonight

launching at 4k is your main problem. When the clutch engages, it will slow down the rpms...this will make the needle drop under the spooling range (3.1k+ rpms) and causing your car to choke...as a matter of fact, if it falls on the 3k range, it will choke....also, the way you engage the clutch is very important.

Try no to shift at 6k, try to shift just a bit over 5.5k...5.7k-5.8k should be good.
