with the install of a cai and cbe or tbe is tuning needed???

im asking because i have a STi as well, and with anything other than a CBE tuning is needed

its not needed unless you want to squeeze out more power. This car is not nearly as finicky with mods as subarus are

nope. anything you can find and bolt on this thing works all by itself ! all of the faastest ms3's out there now have bolt ons and MBC's.....no tuning needed.

I put on a TBE & K&N panel filter then chucked on the Xede and tuned on the dyno. I recently added the TurboXS SRI and the car is going back to be dyno tuned and check A/F's. Never had any problems like what you guys experience.

If you want to get the most out of your mods, safley, tuning is a must.

Edit: I had an STi as well :)

please explain why.

Here is why i think your wrong.

A. ITs a maf car, it adjust the a/f ratio if enough fuel is provided by the pump
B. Timing is already low, no need to retard it
C. Map clamp is all you need
D. Tuning doesnt fix the cold fuel cut
E. Tunning doesnt fix the lack of fuel
F. Tunning doesnt fix the ignition problem

Im running i/ic/tbe/pump/18-19psi and my a/f ratio are spot on btwn 11.5-11.8. My jumps to 13-14 and lowers to 12 at redline. What else can i tuen with whats out for the car.....nothing.

Once throttle control comes out, then we will see how the ecu reacts, untill then, tunning for this car is flat out over rated, unless u run a stock car that runs very rich.

Sometime's I really wonder about you and I choose not to reply to the crap you post around here but since you quote me direct ill waste my time with you.

Let me start with this. Have you ever had a car that had a PROPER ems system that could be tuned? CP-E stand crap doesnt count. Like others have said many time's, you post video's of your boost gauge and you yourself admit that you have no idea what is controlling your boost.

The MS3 has no EMS that can properly tune this car's ecu, yet. I encourage you to read some of the subaru boards, mainly www.nasioc.com and the tuning methods with Cobb and TurboXS. Just becasuse its a maf based car doesnt mean that it will fully adjust to the mods and run SAFLEY all the time and maximize all mods. I really wonder why you think such a thing. Sure, a map clamp will work and provide nice gains, but let's be real here, its not safe and I would never do this to my car. Once Cobb releases the protuner software I hope you give it a shot and talk with some professional tuners about your questions and thought's, im sure they could explain this much better than I ever could, im no tuner but i've been through the ropes many times with my previos cars.

Take this as you wish, im not going to get in a pissing match back and forth with you, you have your ways and I have mine.

im not disagreeing with u. I said with whats out right now, tunning is not neeed.

My a/f and timing is where i want it to be off the stock ecu. The only thing that i would like to tune is the throttle, once we overcome that, maybe a toy with bigger maf and even more fuel. Untill that gets settled there is zero need to run a standback ont his car.

What about adjustimg the timing? You said its already low, why not increase it alittle bit? Like I said before, im no tuner but I know plenty of Subaru guys who were running a stage 2 setup (TBE/intake) and got tuned and put down about 20-30 more whp just from adjusting the timing.

And for the maf, I had a "big maf" on the scoob, and I had to go that route once I put the GT turbo on and it maxed out my maf at 21 psi (confused)

i think no matter what you do to this car you will never "need" a tune. people dont understand that this car has a very good ecu in it. this is not some POS mustang ecu that can gain 35HP from a reflash, and still be rich. sure you may be able to squeeze out a FEW more HP but at what cost .....$500-$1000 ?!?!? no thanks. i will take my 12 maybe 11 sec. MS3 with no tune and just have to deal with it i guess... poor me !

are you running stock exhaust other than test pipe....and why do you say no cp-e for me???

max timing on my car seems to 14 and it usually stays at 12 up top.
No1 knows how safe we can go. Timing can make big changes on turbo cars. There is a ms6 member on here that did nothing but timing and blew up. Dada showed a couple hp, im talking like 2-3 when he upped his timing slightly. The risk of detonating is not worth the 2-3hp to me, nor is paying 600 plus bucks to be able to do it

for now, yes, just a test pipe. i have had a full TBE, but my car blew a lot of smoke with it. i think i will be trying another one soon. some guys say a catch can stops the smoke from appearing with exhaust mods. i wont even get into the CP-E thing. lets just say i dont agree with their way of doing things, or the way they treat people, even those who TEACH them things.
