Is this rumor true or false?

does your friend have a mullett, or chew tobacco while listening to his favorite country tunes in his american made truck, which of course, has a 4ft lift kit on it?
you may be asking yourself how i know these things. well my friend, i just know.

You can buy parts direct if you join Mazdaspeed Motorsports program!

yeah, he doesn't know what he's talkin abt. Only thing I had to fix on it was I slammed it into a curb, but that has nothing to do w/ the car. In my business it's called user error lol

I was considering in buying the 2003 p5, and i had a friend who is a mechanic, telling me that its not worth buying mazda, especially p5 because the cost of maintaining the car from parts and so on. So i just want to know how you guys look it from ownership prospective? Thanks in advance.

Well I had a friend replace the motor for 1600 bucks. That was everthing. I don't see that as costing to much. I have to say for what it is. The P5 is a great car. Could use more power, but then again can't we all.

Not only do I own 2 mazdas but I have owned 2 others, I wouldn't own many other cars in this price range.

Sorry to say, but your mechanic friend doesn't know what he is talking about. I have only had my P5 for 7 months but have put about 7k miles on her and no probs at all.

I am on my THIRD Mazda and have yet to had a problem the dealer didn't fix for free (stupid MSP s***). My P5 never had a problem, and my Miata is like a tank.

i have an 02, with 84K miles and i've never had a problem with the car outside of the EGR, which was covered, and regular maintenance items....and i turboed the car last yr and it still hasn't caused me to spend any money to fix anything on the car as of yet...you're friend's statement is not accurate at all!

np here man.. i'm at 71k and not a single problem with it.. typical oil changes

i slammed it once into a saab.. my fault obviously.. was busy looking at something else.. neways.. only body work damage.. rest of car still strong (bumper and hood + lights)
look at my sig.. just like new.. it will always remain that way

u wont be sorry ;)

my car has 150000 miles and not one mechanical problem except routine things like oil and brakes!

I have TWO 2002 P5's, one for me, one for teh wife, the ONLY thing I have done to either of them for maintenance si just teh regular maintenance on either of them, ever. I would be another one in a heartbeat!

mazdas have bad reliability ratings because of FORD
the cars that have ford s*** in it have lots of stupid s*** that breaks... so the mazdas to avoid:
95+ b-series, tribute, 99+ MPV, 93+ 626, mazda6

the others are fine because they are 95+% mazda parts and engineering... the protege is one of the most reliable, easy to maintain/work on cars out there... its as good as a civic or corolla... the protege and miata are probably the only most reliable mazdas there are

"95+ b-series"

Yup. I had one of those. 3 upper control arms, 2 bearings and a coolant temperature sensor in 110,000 km.

Regardless if the parts were cheap, the labour was not.

I have no complain except for it's lack of torque (my daily beater is a 6 banger) and the wind noise when I drive on the highway =\
Oh, factory cd player sucks as well...

I think almost 50k mile, bought it in 2002 (2nd week after it hit the stealershit in America) and no problem at all...

111k here on my 03.5...It's a POS, but nothing major except for the motor going at 30K. Needs control arm bushings, a hub bearing or 4, tie rods, clutch & flywheel, second needs a syncro replaced, drivers seat back needs replacing. Hasn't ever broken down on me or left me stranded

protege 5 maintainance cost just as much as any other import. If you know how to do some of the work you can even safe more $$$. If you are looking for high maintainance cost or part cost, start looking at BMW, Audi or VW.

I have a 03.5.

Alarm module broke, screw fell into the engine...that had to be completely taken apart to be fixed. head and all was pulled off...tranny shift solenoid broke, burns oil ever since the screw drop, stalls...lots of them...egr was done, computer was redone twice, idle bumped up.

can't remember what else. BTW, i only have 41k miles on it and bought it at 2.

could you imagine getting the head taken off out of pocket?

to reduce alot of the wind noise you have to clean all the window edges then clean door frame where the window sits.

I am at 160K(100,000 miles) just oil changes ,a set of from brake pads , timing belt . This is the 3rd mazda I have owned ,all have had high milage with nothing more than scheduled maintance . It all how you look after the car . It you beat on it expext to pay a little more for wear and tear .
