Is this normal at 10 PSI

I drove on the highway last night for the first time since I installed my MBC.

I got all my kinks worked out with my boost guage. Anyways, it's set to peak right at 10 PSI.

I left the car in 5th gear the entire trip, and whenever I needed to pass someone I'd hit the gas enough to max out the boost (going around 80 MPH, so like 3500 RPM or so).

When I'd let off the gas the car would jolt a little bit. Almost felt like a motor mount issue. If I let off the gas slower it's not as bad or it doesn't happen.

I don't recall the car doing this at stock boost levels.

Anyone have similar issues?

PS - At 10PSI the Mazda hesitation is amplified. :(

i think its the hesitation, when im on my stock msp and shift i get a kick or buck sometimes when i drop the gas and shift......would assume when u are boost more it will be more noticably

Autobox I feel the same way. Also, 'buck' is a better description of what's happening. I assume it's just an engine buck that's violent enough to be felt through the chassis.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something more severe.

If anyone else wants to comment or add input, please do.

Or could it be Fuel cut? Then again you said it happens when you let of the gas. When mine was bucking it was at WOP...gonna get that FCD to cure it...hehe

AT HIGHER BOOST THERE IS MORE PRESSURE TO BE BLED OFF WHEN THE THROTTLE IS CLOSED. sorry for the caps

Hmmm, I get this same engine "buck" and I'm all stock. Actually mine is more like drivetrain "lash"......it doesn't happen consistantly though. Sometimes it does when under acceleration, other times under the same acceleration it doesn't happen. Doesn't bother me too much - I'm hoping new motor mounts fixes it.

normal for our car...due to not being tuned right....our mixture sucks balls.

What he said.. I second the ball sucking tune theory :). Mazda really did a piss-poor job with the ECU mapping. My SRT4 friend noticed it driving mine once and just never stopped breaking my balls for buying the MSP after that :(.

yeh its gotta be the tuning, i get it when im on the gas hard and drop the pedal to shift or just slow and and i get the buck.....i would assume its the sudden closing of the throttle and left over fuel stumblin the car maybe??? either way im hopin to solve all this s*** with a nice e-manage :) kwik...tell ur friend totry and turn that neon and watch the bodyroll....its hilarious

I actually test drove a 04 SRT-4 and there was not much bodyroll at all. You people talking all of this s*** about the cars need to go out and try driving them yourselves. Otherwise, you just make a fool of yourself with the people that know better.

Yeah the SRT-4 is still an excellent handling car. It doesn't outshine the MSP, but it still is a great handling car. Don't make up crap to make you feel better about your purchase.

The deal breaker on the Neon for me was the manual rear windows, I HATE that. That and I got my MSP for $15,900. Other then those two I would've seriously considered it.

The MSP is more unique and it doesn't have as much of a "It's just a neon affect.", but he "we're still driving just a protege."

actually the handling of the srt-4 is nuttin near what the protege offer, for starters the camber adjustment on the srt-4 is hoorible stock i had tire srub before i got out of the first turn....i drove one on the autocross and it suxs, dont assume i havent driven one and think you know more s***...take ur own advice and actually DRIVE one....i dont need to say s*** to make myself feel better of the purchase of my msp...im very happy with it....if i wanted the neon i would of gotten it.......i dont care about neon or protege affects i care about how the car appeals to my driving style....coming from rwd 240sx the protege is the best i can find stock and new and fwd....dont assume im some punk kid that is thinkin his msp is godlike....as sson as i can afford it i would take a g35 or 350z anyday......

yeah, I have noticed this too.. more so when its cold though.. and its not fuel cut, b/c it happens when you let off the gas, rather than give it gas.. for me, it happens really bad in 2nd gear when I shift right around 4000. it just bucks hard when I push in the clutch and let off the gas.... somthing must be done..

btw, Im running 10psi as well

its most likely somehting with the fuel goin to the car....ur dumpin so much and then u cut it abruptly is the casue....i would assume when u tune the fuel leaner and clean up the ignition...this would most likely sove the "buckin" troubles

I was haveing the same issue at 9-10psi. It was so bad the car was horrible to drive in a canyon. I backed the boost off to peak at 8.5 and most of the buck went away. Some of you might remember I posted this a while ago.

Anyway, I recently installed a prototype CAI on the car and the buck all but went away. It's MUCH better now with the CAI. The CAI hooks up similar to the Spool, but with 45 degree bends instead of a 90 degree bend. The car also pulls harder and has a much nicer BOV sound.

Try turning you boost down to about 8.5 and it should mostly go away.

My guess is the car is running way to rich and that's what's causing this. Opening up the intake might have leaned it out.

I agree with AutoBox more or less but this only happens at, or very close to, 4200 rpms. Im thinking its whats left of the hesitation.

Umm...I think that the bucking is actually not just on MSPs but on any VICS equipped Mazda motor from the past couple years. The VICS definitely cause this effect at lower RPMs and I wouldn't be surprsed if anytime you let off the gas like that it does it.
