is mitsubishi lancer ralliart 2009 a downgrade?

I don't know about yall, but this post did not make much sense. isnt IX the evo 9?

what is DSM? I think i must have misread a previous post!

The EVO 9 had 3 different packages. The RS was the most basic and it looked pretty much like a stock lancer but had the 4g63T and 5 speed. The IX was the middle line that had a body kit, some other s***, and a 5 speed trans. The MR, the top of the line, was the slowest and heaviest, with the weak ass 6 speed transmission.

Diamond Star Motors was an alliance between Plymouth, Mitsubishi, and Eagle back in the early 90's. The Plymouth Laser, Mitsubishi Eclipse, and Eagle Talon were essentially the same car with the 4g63T motor. You could get em in FWD or AWD with 5 speed trans

They can flow 50-60 cfm of air on stock internals. That translates to 500-550 horsepower. They are very cheap and you can probably get a running one in ur area for around $2000. I got one minus engine and trans for $100. The trans cost me another $100 and a running motor for $450. Slap on a bigger turbo (in my case a turbonetics 60-1 with ported manifold, external wastegate and all oil lines for $500) and get DSM Link tuning software, and you are good for low 12's or high 11's.

Well you may get one run, then there goes your trans. They go fast for cheap, but they are far from reliable. Crankwalk anyone?

Actually the RS looks like a dewinged IX GT. And it lacked ABS, radio, and I believe A/C.

The MR also had the bilstein suspension, nicer bbs rims, hids, could get a vortex generator and interior enhancements.

The best evo to buy IMO, was the IX SE. Had all the cool stuff minus 6 speed. Which is only good for 118mph traps if you decide to mod.

To the original poster, this new Mitsu Lancer platform is heavy. And Mitsu has a hard on for people with mods around here.

I don't think it would be worth taking a hit on the MS3 for.

ummm....

One drive in a awd turbo car in the snow is all it takes, then you'll see how much fun driving in snow can be. Using the throttle to get sideways into corners and then being able to use the throttle to pull out of slides is so much fun. Fwd in the snow is not even half as fun.

Oh, I don't debate the fun factor. I know it's there. RWD in the snow is fun for me, personally. However, in terms of "better mobility in everyday driving," once you're moving its nowhere near the difference that people make it out to be.

Not sure how much the DSG + turbo+ new engine will change the weight, but...(all my numbers from wikipedia, they were close enough to other numbers I have found previously)

Lancer (Manual)- 2915 lbs
Lancer (Auto)- 3102 lbs

Evo X- 3381 lbs

Mazda 3 2600-2900 lbs

Mazdaspeed 3 3100 lbs

I doubt the Ralliart will be "heavy" incomparison to the MS3. I would predict it being exactly the same.

Quoting from Motortrend....

Curb weight 3585 lb

From Caranddriver
Curb weight- 3558

Edmunds
Curb Weight 3515

From Motortrend as well

1/4 14.0 sec @ 96.9 mph
1/4 13.8@100

And that is with 295hp, now take away 60hp. eh.... That is the MR, I do believe others have had better luck with the GSR with the 5 speed.

Give me a IX anyday over the X.

i love my IX but i would take a X in a heartbeat, they're making pretty good numbers so far, and the AYC...

I just like the 9 better, looks wise I like the 8 best, but the 9 is the best comprimise. If the right deal were to strike I would trade in the speed for a 9.

Whats a DSM? here's some info :D

I will be eagerly awaiting the Ralliart evo. Should be an amazing car. If you read the original post you note that the guy wants a sedan and will keep it stock. the ralliart evo has a 100k mile warranty if you keep it stock and turbo/awd/auto or possibly manual. Fast? how many of you are racing on a daily basis? How many of you even drive your car daily? I drive my msp every day and its plenty "fast". ralliart evo will be quite a bit faster and an excellent daily driver. Biggest problem with the switch is the loss of $$$ put into the speed3. Any time you trade in a nearly new car your going to be losing your ass. If you're ok with the money your going to lose, I say excellent choice. Not a downgrade at all.

That's alot of faith in a car that is not out yet. We'll see. I hope I am wrong. I daily drive all my sport cars. Even when I had my 911 it was my daily driver, untill winter that is.

Ya exactly, people also forget that they cannot stop any better with awd. However when it is winter up here(canada) awd sure is fun in the corners.(drive2)

good turn out from this thread. I realized recently that the phase i'm in (having a hot car cause i never had when i was a teen) is almost over. So now i'm thinkin I just want a nice lookin car, peppy and reliable. I wont jump into it, maybe after a year the ralliart has been out then I'm going for a test drive. I'll compare the dsg and the 5 speed. But I think I like 5 speed better. kinda weird not having to press down a clutch. I'm hoping in a year or two the value of my ms3 and my remaining loan will be equal so i dont have to pay the difference when gettin a new car. For the meantime, I think i'll track my ms3 till i'm sick of it. I have bilsteins and h&r. nice on corners but it's a bit harsh now for my taste. I stopped entertaining any races on the streets ( for long time now), so I dont need a fast car, there's no point, there's always a faster car. So I dont really care if the Ralliart lancer will be tad slower. I'll definitely wait for all the bugs to get iron out before I let go of my ms3. My fastest time is 13.7 sec. So I'll be giving that up for a mid 14sec car.

Check out the BMW 135i starts at 35k. I know I am... It runs the 1/4 in 13.3 @106-108ish and is everything you discriped. just my .02 :)

If mazda brings out the Mazdaspeed2, that may also be a fun little car, but also very economical as well. However, given the incredible ignorance that most supposed Mazdaspeed dealers and their service, I would hate to run into problems and headaches. Of course this is not to say that the evo or ralliart will not have their problems.
