I'm considering to get a lancer 2009 ralliart to replace my speed 3. my 3 is plenty quick, but I think I want to start fresh with a new car and not mod at all. plus ralliart is good with snow, not that expensive, probably same price as ms3, it's a sport sedan, i think I'm more of a sedan kinda guy than a wagon. I'll miss the space though. The mazda dealerships sucks. I'm hopin mitsu is better. Would I be downgrading if i do this?

i just looked on the mitsu website and didn't see a ralli-art edition. and it depends on what you mean by downgrading. i see the gts is 168hp, so a definate downgrade there if you're talking about performance numbers overall

you're really going to have to make a list of things you like about the 3 and see if there are any matches with the lancer. if what you like in the 3 is part of what you like in the lancer, than i say go ahead and make an educated decision.

i just loaded one on the website with the nav and sound package and it came to about 22k, which is a pretty good price. i test drove an 08 or 07 a while back and liked the car a lot. and i think they did a real nice job redesigning the look of the car

one thing you'll want to consider, though, is the cvt. i test drove the one with it and couldn't stand it at all. I HATE CVT.

hope i helped

I think the 09 Ralliart is supposed to be a competitor with the WRX. If I recall correctly, it has a detuned evo engine and AWD similar to the evo 9 (i.e. no S-AYC). Should be a pretty great car.

The Ralliart looks to be fairly promising. According to what I have read it is suppose to be released with a 4B11 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC intercooled and turbocharged engine producing 235bhp, 253 torque. Intially it will only be available with a Twin Clutch-SST gearbox mated with paddles to produce flawless shifts...if a bit boring to drive. It is rumored to have a manual six speed shortly there after. The power will be put to the ground with a full-time 4WD driveline features Mitsubishi's Active Center Differential. It looks like the MS3 will have the edge in most performance aspects stock for stock but this thing could be crazy once modded. Evo lite may be an understatement. I have read nothing good about Mitsubishi customer service departments. It's a great looking car that has a ton of potential for the money...the WRX is the only other car in that price range. Got AWD Mazda...

For most people it would probably be the AWD aspect. I am not tempted by the Ralliart as of yet. I'd like to see what a few toys will do to it before I think any more about it. I think it was smart of Mitsubishi to bridge the gap per say from the cruddy stock lancer to the Evo.

I love when people say "Oh, AWD is worlds better in snow." Yeah, when starting from a stop. Otherwise, it's all the same.

i think it's the more "fun" aspect in the snow than it is better. my old jeep was fun in the snow cuz it was flawless/effortless drifting. take a turn, blip the throttle, and just coast the rest of the way

I don't know were you heard 6-speed, its a later 5-speed. ATleast thats what i have heard.

The fact that they can sell this car close to the ms3 price range, tells you how much money they are making on the evo. The difference between the ralliart and the evo are minimal in manufacturers terms. If they really wanted to , they could make a stripped down evo strictly to cater to the minimalist crowd.

I wanted a Evo 9 in the RS model, which looks like a normal lancer but is the same as the IX model.

Yeah, it's called a dsm and you can pick up one just about anywhere. The evo9 back to the 1990 DSM's used the same 4g63 block. Plus the aftermarket is incredible and knowledge a plenty.

I will say that if you take a stock new lancer and lower it, it looks pretty nice.... but it has less power and no manual tranny, so you're really only paying for awd. If you want awd and boost, buy a wrx. Besides, first year or two things come out they have bugs. Look at smoking turbos, engines dropping through motor mounts, etc with us!!

Not to mention the money you would lose trading in your MS3 for the Ralliart. The grass is always greener, but you'll be happier staying with the speed

I agree with you from the standpoint that alot of the Mazda dealerships and their service are truly lacking! I dont think you would be taking a step back with the Ralliart, you are basically getting a detuned version of the new 4b11 that powers older brother Evo X. However I am not entirely sure about Mitsubishis quality and service record, especially with the ralliart and Evo. I like the ralliart but I will wait a while since it is a pretty new platform.

Matter of fact something tells me the demand for the ralliart will be high due to the price, that may take the demand off of the evo x and possibly allow a pretty decent deal to be had! We'll see!

One drive in a awd turbo car in the snow is all it takes, then you'll see how much fun driving in snow can be. Using the throttle to get sideways into corners and then being able to use the throttle to pull out of slides is so much fun. Fwd in the snow is not even half as fun.

The differences in price can be atributed to things like the Evos all aluminum suspension pieces as compared to the Ralliarts all stamped steel suspension peices. Also the awd system on the Evo is much more complex.

As a long time severe winter driver (10 years in upstate NY)
Thank God I came home to Fl, The last thing I would do in a new car is get sideways in the snow, it's hard enough not to play bumper cars on snow covered ice. Why in the hell would you want to do it on purpose?

In a huge empty parking lot with no light poles I could see it. Anywhere else, and your eventually going to run smack into murphy's law......
