Is it possible to RWD a speed6?

Maybe i have a bad front axle, im getting a weird noise.

Can the car/drivetrain handle if i yank the front axles of the car and take it for a spinn? Ore will that ruin the tranny?

Anyone ever tried this?

You won't be able to. Our 'RWD' is basically a power take off, which is controlled from a 12VDC signal being sent to a clutch pack. You can override that by putting a constant 12VDC to the rear diff, but it won't be what you expect.

Besides, taking the front axles off and running without them is a lot of work for basically no reward.

Shredder said it best, a Haldex controller would be in order, but they don't make one.

First, you would spend more time/money trying to get to "RWD" than you would if you just replaced the axle. Second, it would not be anything like a normal RWD car.

All power goes through the transmission as the car sits, so it wouldn't affect your transmission. If anything, you would tear up rear drivetrain components (differential, axels) by putting more power than it was made to handle. It gets a lot more complex than that, but I'm sure you get the idea.

also this car doesnt have 50/50 weight distribution, which is pointless NOT to have, the speed6 isnt even close, its 60/40 front to back. so expect horrible handling, massive understeer, the inability to drift, and nonstop spinning tires. as well as possible chassis flex. the only thing i could think of is an rx7 twin turbo swap which would minus hundreds of lbs from the front of the car, mating up to the RX8 LSD with its axles and suspension. did something similar to my 240sx into a 300zx suspension.

Anyone trying to legitimately drift this platform should think twice. You're not going to be able to do much in terms of swapping if you want to retain the AWD system either. Again, the most reasonable solution would be to get a more aggressive Haldex controller and install that.

i'd like to see it done. a nice one-off speed rotary six w/ rwd!

AND, I'm suprised no one has installed a Haldex controller like TunerSteve mentioned to get more of a rwd feel. espicially if one were producing more hp and TORQUE. why not? stiffen up the frame like the v8 guys do, get a HUGE spoiler, find a slick black top parking lot free of obstacles and enjoy the piss out of it. break it and rebuild.

Like I've said before, you won't be able to do that with this car. The AWD system just isn't designed to go RWD like you want it to. If you want that, go with an Evo or STi. Since our system is a PTO-style rear setup, we can only throw 50% back to it. Couple that with the understeering tendencies, as well as its weight, and that's quite a bit to overcome.

Look into a 2-rotor setup. You have to rev the living piss out of that to produce any kind of torque. Why do you think some FD RX-7 guys throw the SBC 350 in the car? The motor is all aluminum, you wouldn't be shedding as much weight as you think. Yes, it would be lighter, but not by enough to justify all the custom fab work.
