Is it just me? The Protege5 goes thru headlight bulbs like its food

Yah that was what I said to him but he assured me he has seen the same people come in replacing their bulbs. Could be wrong though. Oh and I was pretty pissed off about having to change my light and in the process of changing it I got a little frustrated and broke that metal clip tha holds the bulb in place. Does any one know where I could find a replacement?

I've been having this problem too. My passenger side low beam is also noticeably dimmer than the driver's side. After inspecting the connector i noticed that all of the terminals were burnt up. Now i've gotta find a connector somewhere, and i've got the same problem the westerboyz has with the broken clip.

You can probably just clean the charred stuff off the metal connectors to restore the electrical connection, so long as the plastic parts have not deformed and the insulation is still on the wires. As for the broken clip holder, well, the only "official" way to fix that is to replace the whole headlight. That said, once you pull the headlight unit from the car you may be able to rig up some other bulb retaining mechanism. (That is, epoxy something onto the back of the light, or possibly "fix" the broken clip retainer by a similar method.)

I blew out my passenger side low beam bulb last night. That makes about the 5th or 6th bulb in about 2 years. Ridiculous! I hate replacing the passenger side..total pain in the ass...although I've never taken off the bumper..seems a bit much just to replace some bulbs.

I also noticed one of my fog lights is busted..has what looks like a bullet hole or rock hole in it..yet it still works...meanwhile my other side fog is out. I picked up some replacement bulbs for that also. Looks like a medium pain in the ass to replace those too!

I love the Hella bulbs best but they are very pricey...and people kept flashing their lights at me like I had high beams on..they are excellent compared to anything else I've tried as far as vision goes. I could see HELLA far while driving in the pitch black mountains of northern Arizona. Alas, I had one blow out after a couple months so I replaced them with cheaper Sylvania Halogen Xtra Vision bulbs...they lasted about 10 months. So now I have one Sylvania and one Hella (had that one left over). Screw it...I don't feel like dealing with fixing all these bulbs till the weekend! lol

If people are flashing you, have you attempted to aim your headlights lower?

I'm running an HID kit in both cars and noone flashes thier brights at us. Proper aiming of the headlights is key

Yes if people is flashing their hi at you that is not only annoying but also dangerous. Especially in the two-lane road, they can't see s*** in front of them and have higher chance hitting you head-on.

I have the same problem. The right side will blew more then the left. I also get shocked when leaving the car. Someone told me a bad ground. After reading this thread I dont know what to do. I also notice the lights eill dim down at times. My Datsun 510 will dim down but the Hella bulbs lasted about 6 years. I too am tired of changing the bulbs every 5 to 6 months. In see some of you went to hid lights. Any problems and what company offers the best kit? Thank you for your help.

DOH!!! Just noticed I lost the passenger side bulb this morning. I'm not looking forward to this most PITA maintenance item.

RADAR!

How are you liking the Apexcone 4300K DDM HID's? Like a bad infomercial, I want to set it and forget it when it comes to bulb replacement.

I am LOVING the Apexcone setup. You've got a PM coming your way about them

If you're fighting with the passenger side, just drop the $$$ on teh HID kit and forget about it.

I think my kit is spoken for with the headlights too.

Or you can haz PM?
