Is it a stupid idea/a waste to put a performance muffler on an automatic Mazda3?

I loooove the muffled deep roar of these performance mufflers, but is it worth it to put one on an automatic?

Why not? There are a few exhaust kits you can get and stay CARB legal.
Having an auto should not stop you from modding it.
Do it.

Any leads where I can find a brand that works with the Mazda3? I've been listening to a bunch of sweeeet muffler sounds on the net...

Magnaflow makes an exhaust system that sounds awesome. Borla and HKS make one also but it is for the 5-door only. These are the only three reputable brands that i have found. There are a couple of fly-by-nighters that make them but i dont trust that.

Horsepower is horsepower and more is always better regardless of how it gets to the ground.

i have the magnaflow exhaust on my 04 3 hatch, starts off cold and quiet then gos to very mild, just a little bit louder than stock, its ok but wouldn't suggest it. go with somthing else...

Not true. I have the borla catback on my sedan. It fits on there fine. The tip is just a little bit pushed back. Since, the sedan is longer than the hatch.

yea i have an auto and mine sounds very nice... it has a very deep sound to it

The small gains you get may not be worth it, but the mellow purr is. oh and I have the vibrant, I had some issues with fitment, nothing alittle welding couldnt fix.

HKS is nice, but its too loud for my taste. I havent heard any other exhaust at the moment yet except that one on the mz3
